HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A opening punt by Ohio Dominican pinned the Storm deep in the shadows of their own end zone. After forcing a three-and-out, Mehki Kilburn blocked a Lake Erie punt as the Panthers took over at the Storm 20-yard line.
  • One play later, Gallehue connected with Cornell on a 20-yard touchdown, giving ODU a 7-0 lead with 10:14 left in the first quarter.
  • Both teams exchanged punts before Joshua Jean-Baptiste tied the game on a 17-yard rushing touchdown with 2:10 remaining in the first period.
  • Both of the Storm's first two drives in the second quarter ended with missed field goals of at least 50-yards but the game remained tied at seven.
  • Young had a chance to give ODU the lead right before halftime but the 30-yard field goal try was no good. The game stayed in a 7-7 tie at halftime.
  • Two plays into the third quarter, Qwyn Williams came away with a strip sack of Alec Lewis as Rico Franklin-Davis recovered the fumble. Six plays later, Gallehue found Mitsopoulos on a six-yard TD for a 14-7 lead.
  • Four minutes later, Lewis and Tae'Shaun Johnson had a 44-yard touchdown pass and catch to tie the game at 14.
  • In the matter of six plays, the Storm and Panthers exchanged long touchdowns to keep the game deadlocked at 21. Gallehue hit Mitsopoulos for a 69-yard touchdown as Lewis passed a 62-yard strike to Keyshawn Johnson a minute later.
  • As the third quarter ended, Ohio Dominican was in position to take the lead. Webster pounced into the end zone on a five-yard scamper for a 28-21 lead just 40 seconds into the final quarter.
  • The Panthers forced a three-and-out and then took the air out of the ball on their next drive. Ohio Dominican went on a 20 play, 45-yard drive that chewed 11:16 of game time. Young capped the drive with a 22-yard field goal to put ODU up 31-21 with 1:43 left.
