HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After ODU was unable to convert a fourth down try on their first drive, Ashland answered with a 23-yard field goal by A.J. Rhodes. The Eagles led 3-0 with just under five minutes left in the first quarter.
  • Gallehue was picked off at the end of the first quarter, leading to Rhodes making a 43-yard field goal 96 seconds into the second quarter.
  • Ashland scored 20 points in the second quarter. The next drive for the Panthers ended in a safety as a fourth down snap ended up going through the back of the end-zone just 90 seconds later.  Ashland pushed the lead to 11-0 with a 29-yard field goal at the 8:00 minute mark of the second quarter.  A second safety occurred a minute later when an ODU punt was blocked in the end zone. A 42-yard field goal for Rhodes, combined with a 12-yard passing touchdown from Trevor Bycznski to Dru Johnson made it 23-0 at the half.
  • Hill's interception kickstarted the ODU defense in the second half but an interception led to a 38-yard field goal by Rhodes for a 26-0 score seven minutes into the third period.
  • After Ohio Dominican got a fourth down stop, they converted a 12 play, 70-yard drive that spanned nearly six minutes. Gallehue scampered into the end zone on fourth and goal at the one-yard line. His one-yard touchdown made it 26-6 as the two-point try was no good.
