COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (3-5, 2-4) football team turned away the top scoring offense in the G-MAC, the Walsh Cavaliers (4-4, 3-3) at Panther Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 26) afternoon.
The Panthers held the Cavaliers to seven points and 123 yards of total offense in a 16-7 wiin, snapping a three-game losing streak.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Drew Gallehue passed for a career-high 302 yards with 25 completions on 36 attempts.
- Gallehue moved into seventh all-time in passing completions, attempts and yards.
- Shane Lindstrom ran the ball 14 times for 45 yards as Natwan Webster tallied 42 yards on 11 carries.
- Jayden Cornell made nine catches for a career-high 193 yards, scoring one touchdown on a deep ball.
- Cornell's day ranks third in program history for receiving yards.
- Kendal Marshall led with seven tackles, 2.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss.
- Michael Powers and Daishaun Hill both came away with interceptions in the game.
- Hill has 11 interceptions in his career, tied for third all-time with Alessio Amato.
- The Panthers made six sacks - setting a program record for a single game. Marshall accounted for 2.5 sacks while Qwyn Williams and Madison Norris had one each. Brayden Taylor, DeShannon Butler and Leonard Sharp tallied half a sack each.
- AJ Young was three-of-four on field goals in the game, connecting from 23, 26 and 27 yards. His one miss was from 45-yards.
- Ohio Dominican outgained Walsh 364-123 with 302 passing yards and 62 rushing yards.
- Walsh had averaged 35.3 points (1st in the G-MAC), 402 yards of total offense (3rd), 179.6 rushing yards (1st) and 222.3 passing yards. The Cavaliers were limited to seven points, 123 total yards, 66 rushing yards and 57 passing yards.
- The Panthers defense held Walsh to -15 total yards in the second half on 19 plays.
- ODU had possession for 35:52 of the game - a season-high and most since 2022.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Walsh scored on their first drive with a one-yard rushing touchdown by Cameron Macon. The Cavaliers led 7-0 five minutes into the game.
- One play later, Gallehue went over the top on a deep ball to Cornell. They connected on a 67-yard touchdown, tying the game at seven.
- Walsh's first drive of the second quarter turned into an opportunity for the Panthers. Powers picked off the Walsh quarterback at midfield but could not come away with points.
- Ohio Dominican had a last chance to take a lead into halftime but a 45-yard field goal attempt by Young was just short. The game was still deadlocked at seven at the break.
- Young converted from 23 yards on ODU's opening drive of the third quarter, pushing the lead to 10-7.
- Three minutes into the fourth, Young made his second field goal - a 26-yard field goal to make it 13-7.
- Hill snagged his fourth interception of the season, allowing Young to ice the game with a 27-yard field goal just before the two minute timeout.
