Volleyball Splits in West Virginia

WHEELING, West Virginia - The Ohio Dominican volleyball team enjoyed a successful start to their doubleheader in Wheeling, West Virginia, sweeping Glenville State 3-0 in their first match at the Alma Grace McDonough Center. 

Junior Jenna Peters was a standout performer, leading the Panthers with three aces, one block, and eight kills. Setter Macie Bowden contributed significantly with 21 assists and three aces, while junior Saige Avery achieved a double-double with 16 assists and 12 digs. Freshman Brynn Clark led the team in kills with nine. 

The match began tightly contested, with the score tied at 8-8 in the first set. However, the Panthers surged ahead with key plays from Peters, finishing the set 25-19. The second set mirrored the first with an early tie at 11-11, but ODU capitalized on a five-point run, ultimately winning the set 25-19 after a strong response from Glenville State. 

The third set showcased Ohio Dominican's dominance as they quickly built a lead of 13-6 and then extended it with an eight-point run, closing out the set decisively at 25-8. 

The Panthers are set to face Wheeling University at 5 PM to wrap up their day in West Virginia. 

Wheeling University Game

Ohio Dominican faced a tough second match against Wheeling University, falling 3-0. Setter Saige Avery had a solid performance, contributing 15 assists, seven digs, and an ace, while Ashley Aselage led the Panthers with nine kills and three blocks. 

The first set saw Wheeling dominate early, establishing a 9-4 lead and extending it to 25-9 with a decisive six-point run late in the set. The second set was much more competitive, featuring 12 ties, with ODU briefly leading at crucial moments (22-19 and 23-22) before Wheeling snatched it 26-24. 

In the final set, Ohio Dominican started strong but could not maintain the momentum. The teams were tied at 18-18 before Wheeling closed out the match with a six-point run, winning the set 25-21.

The Panthers will look to bounce back when they host Thomas More at Alumni Hall on Friday, November 1, at 6 PM.
