Findlay Defeats Panthers at Home, 26-10

COLUMBUS, Ohio - After two weeks on the road, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (2-5, 1-4) football team returned home to the confines of Panther Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 19), hosting the Findlay Oilers (6-1, 4-1). 

Despite outscoring Findlay 10-0 in the fourth quarter, the Panthers fell 26-10 on a sunny Fall afternoon on Sunbury Road. 

BOX SCORE NOTES

  • Drew Gallehue threw the ball 30 times with 16 completions, 161 passing yards and three interceptions. 
  • Shane Lindstrom rushed the ball for a career-high 59 yards on 17 carries.
  • Dimitri Mitsopoulos made six catches and had seven returns on the day. Mitsopoulos had 88 yards receiving with 129 kickoff return yards. 
    • He is now sixth in career kick return yards and kick returns. 
  • Caleb Taylor led the Panthers with 12 tackles in the game with an interception. 
  • Michael Powers finished with 11 tackles, his third straight game of at least ten tackles. 
    • Powers jumped into sixth all-time with 283 career tackles. With nine solo stops, he is seventh in solo tackles with 144.
  • ODU finished with three sacks as Qwyn Williams and Dylan Fisher each had a sack. Jace Schaefer and Bryce Washington combined on a sack. 
  • Taylor and Chad Thomas had picks in the game as Taylor has interceptions in back-to-back games. 
  • AJ Young averaged 40.3 yards on seven punts with a 22-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Findlay got two field goals on their first two drives of the contest, leading 6-0 after the first quarter. The Oilers got into the red zone twice but the Panthers held for field goals from Cameron Shirkey of 24 and 26 yards, respectively. 
  • Both teams traded interceptions in the outset of the second quarter before Findlay capitalized on a short field. Makya Matthews punched it in from one yard out, as Findlay led 13-0 with 8:25 left before halftime. 
  • With 19 seconds left in the half, Shirkey made it 16-0 Findlay with a 22 yard field goal. 
  • In the third quarter, Findlay doubled up with two scoring drives. Shirkey converted from 43 yards and Jayden Farmer scored on a five-yard rushing touchdown two minutes later. Findlay led 26-0 as the game shifted towards the fourth quarter. 
  • ODU went on a scoring drive in the beginning of the fourth quarter, settling for a field goal. The Panthers went on a ten-play, 83-yard scoring drive as Young kicked a field goal from 22 yards out just over four minutes into the period. 
  • In the final two minutes, Gallehue dove into the end zone for a six-yard touchdown, ending the scoring at 26-10.
