HAMMOND, Indiana -Â The Ohio Dominican volleyball team kicked off the Midwest Region Crossover in Hammond, Indiana, facing Illinois Springfield University on Friday (Oct 19).
Unfortunately, the Panthers fell 3-1 after four sets.
Lauren Lucas stood out offensively, contributing 13 kills, while junior
Grace Zinchuk added 10 kills, five blocks, and two aces. Setter
Gabrielle Kirker recorded 22 assists and 12 digs, and libero
Lauren Dinunzi anchored the defense with 20 digs.
Overall, Ohio Dominican tallied 49 kills, 47 assists, and 67 digs in the match.Â
How It Happened
After Ohio Dominican edged set one 26-24, the Prairie Stars bounced back to take set two 25-22. Set three saw Illinois Springfield dominate, pulling ahead 25-19 and taking a 2-1 lead in the match.Â
The final set was a nail-biter, with both teams exchanging points early on. Illinois Springfield built a solid lead at 18-13, but Ohio Dominican fought back to tie it at 18-18. Ultimately, the Prairie Stars secured the match by winning set four 25-23.Â
