Panthers Return to Action With Home Series

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team returns from a near two-week layoff as they will kick off a three-game week at Alumni Hall. The Panthers will host Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday (Feb. 1) at 7:30 PM and Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday (Feb. 3) at 3:00 PM.

With 12 games on the slate for the final five weeks of the regular season, the Panthers will close out play on Monday (Feb. 5) against Findlay in an rescheduled contest. More on that game in Sunday's preview.  

OPENING TIPOFF
  • Ohio Dominican battled the Lake Erie Storm two weeks ago on Jan. 18 inside of Alumni Hall. ODU could not weather a late Storm run, falling 92-78. Ohio Dominican sits at 3-12 overall and 0-8 in the G-MAC. 
  • Luke Ruth (Grove City, Ohio) scored a career-high 31 points against the Storm on 12-of-21 shooting and seven-of-12 at the free throw line. The freshman is on an 11-game streak in double-figures (tied for the team lead). Ruth averaged 19.0 points per game in January (3rd in the G-MAC) and had 2.5 steals in the month - the most in the league after five steals vs. LEC. 
    • Ruth became the third different Panther to score 30 points in a game this season and Ohio Dominican is one of two teams in the G-MAC with three different players to have at least 30 points. 
    • He is one of 16 Panthers to reach 30 points scored in the Division II era. Ruth now ranks tied for fifth in steals and sixth in the Division II era with 12 field goals in a single game.
  • Sean McKitrick (Dayton, Ohio) tied Ruth with his 11th straight game with at least ten points with 16 in the last game. For the season, he has an season average of 16.1 points per game with 16.0 points in the month of January. He sits seventh in scoring for the conference as the calendar hits February.  
  • Parker Swartz (Grand Rapids, Michigan) set a career-high with 17 points on seven-for-12 field goals. He hit a trio of three pointers in the game. He has three games in double figures now in the season. 
  • Nate Webb (Lafayette, Indiana) added eight points for his third best scoring game of the season. He has three games of at least two made three pointers. 
  • Christian Lee (Birmingham, Alabama) set career-highs with six points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists off the bench. 
  • Ohio Dominican shot 51.6% (32-62) overall in the game against Lake Erie, the second highest mark of the season. 
  • The battle of the Panthers has taken place ten times in the D2 era, all within the G-MAC period (2017-present). Kentucky Wesleyan holds a 9-1 lead in the series, including the last seven overall. ODU has won one of the five matchups in Alumni Hall. KWC took both ends of the season series for the 2022-23 season (68-52 and 59-58).
  • Ohio Dominican leads the D2 series with Trevecca Nazarene 7-4 in nine matchups in the G-MAC era (since 2017-18). The Panthers have won three straight contests prior to Trevecca taking the last meeting 51-44 in Nashville in February 2023. 
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
  • Kentucky Wesleyan begins February with a 13-6 record and a 7-4 G-MAC mark. They are tied for fourth place in the conference, 2.5 games behind the leader Cedarville (9-1). 
  • The Panthers started 0-2 with two losses to teams near the top 25 before winning eight of nine games to end 2023 with an 8-3 record.  In 2024, KWC is 5-3 with four conference wins. 
  • In conference action, KWC has swept both Lake Erie and Walsh while defeating Findlay, Malone and Northwood. The Panthers fell twice to Ashland and once to Tiffin and Hillsdale. 
  • Borja Fernandez is the reigning G-MAC Athlete of the Week after helping KWC to two wins with 21.5 points last week and 4.5 assists. He leads the Panthers with 14.6 points and a .538 field goal percentage (4th in the G-MAC) while sitting second with 5.6 rebounds. 
  • Kennedy Miles is second on the team with 11.7 points but leads the team with 4.8 assists  (3rd in the G-MAC) and 2.5 steals per game (1st in the G-MAC). 
  • Logan McIntire (11.5 PPG) and Edward Jones Jr. (10.6 PPG) average double digits with Alex Gray grabbing 6.2 boards per game. 
  • Kentucky Wesleyan is scoring 75.8 points per game while allowing 67.0 points. They are shooting .477 as a group overall and .336 from three. 
SCOUTING THE TROJANS
  • Trevecca Nazarene has turned around from a 2-24 record last year to a 13-5 mark this season. The Trojans will play at Findlay on Thursday in second place for the G-MAC (8-2). 
  • Head coach Kevin Carroll has seen the Trojans go 5-3 in non-conference games before a 7-0 start in conference play. After back-to-back losses to Ashland (71-70) and Tiffin (81-77), Trevecca defeated Lake Erie 81-68 inside Trojan Fieldhouse. 
  • Jalen Page is the top scorer in the conference with 20.3 points per game with 6.9 rebounds (5th most), a .500 field goal % (8th), a .419 three point % (1st), 52 threes (3rd). He is shooting .818 at the free throw line. Page has been named G-MAC Athlete of the Week three times this season. 
  • Jamal Cannady Jr. is second on the team with 15.1 points. 
  • Peter Lambesis ranks second in the conference with 8.4 rebounds per game with 12.7 points averaged. 
  • Tommy Gankhuyag tallies 11.0 points per game and 6.1 rebounds. 
  • Trevecca Nazarene is scoring 82.6 points on offense while the defense is surrendering 75.9 points. The Trojans are shooting .475 from the floor and a .374 three point %.
