Late Score Puts KWC Past ODU, 13-10

OWENSBORO, Kentucky - The Ohio Dominican Panthers football team finished the second leg of the Bluegrass State roadtrip with a conference contest against the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers on Saturday (Sept. 23) night at Steele Stadium. 

For the second straight week, the game came down to the wire as Kentucky Wesleyan scored late for a 13-10 win over Ohio Dominican. With the close loss, Ohio Dominican fell to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the G-MAC. 

BOX SCORE NOTES

  • Drew Gallehue (Edon, Ohio) was 16-of-27 overall with 102 yards in the air.
  • Travis Whittaker (Gahanna, Ohio) tallied a season-high 74 yards on the ground on nine carries. 
  • Jonzell Norrils (Toledo, Ohio) added 73 yards rushing on 14 touches with one rushing touchdown from four yards out. 
  • Ty Wiley (Pickerington, Ohio) caught a team-high six catches for 45 yards with two kickoff returns for 41 yards, totaling 86 all-purpose yards. 
  • Ivan Ermlich (Pickerington, Ohio) kicked a 26-yard field goal in the second quarter, going one-of-two in the game. He made one extra point in the first quarter for four points. 
  • Brady Blattner (Cumberland, Ohio) was tied for the team lead with seven tackles but had two picks for his second and third career interceptions. 
    • Blattner was the 16th player with at least two interceptions in a game in program history. The last game with two interceptions was Ashton Gilkey in March of 2021 against Lake Erie. 
  • Blaine Swartzmiller (Attica, Ohio) gathered seven tackles in the game, tying with Blattner. 
  • Eddie Miller-Garrett (Newark, New Jersey) had 2.5 sacks in the game with six tackles. 
    • EMG now has 37.5 TFL and 19.5 sacks for his career. 
  • Darryl Sinclair (Solon, Ohio)Kalos Farrier (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Michael Powers (West Mansfield, Ohio) combined for 2.5 more sacks as the team totaled five sacks and seven tackles for loss. 
  • Daishaun Hill (Rocky River, Ohio) picked off his second pass of the season in the fourth quarter. 
  • ODU held the second-best offense in the league to 170 yards of total offense and forced KWC to 45 yards rushing. 
  • Ohio Dominican added 248 yards of total offense and a season-high 146 yards rushing. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After KWC's second drive was stopped by Blattner's first pick of the night, Ohio Dominican capitalized for the early first quarter lead. 
  • As the first quarter winded down, Norrils capped off an eight play, 55-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown run. ODU led 7-0 with 1:31 left in the opening period. 
  • Kentucky Wesleyan followed with an 11 play, 89-yard drive to answer with a four-yard touchdown run. The missed extra point allowed ODU to lead 7-6 with 11:11 before halftime. 
  • ODU missed a field goal on the next drive as the lead remained one point. 
  • The KWC Panthers were stopped with a Farrier sack and Blattner's second interception. 
  • Ermlich booted a 26-yard field goal with 2:33 on the clock as ODU led 10-6 at halftime. 
  • The game turned into a defensive battle with the score remaining 10-6 until the end of the fourth quarter. 
  • Kentucky Wesleyan scored with 35 seconds left in the game, winning 13-10.
