Ashland Grounds Panthers in Home Return

COLUMBUS, Ohio - After playing on the road for the last two weeks, the Ohio Dominican Panthers football team returned to the confines of Panther Stadium on Saturday (Sept. 30) to host the Ashland Eagles. 

Ohio Dominican was turned away by the visiting Eagles 20-6 in the contest as ODU is now 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the G-MAC. 

BOX SCORE NOTES

  • Drew Gallehue (Edon, Ohio) passed for a career-high 211 yards on 24-of-40 passing with one passing touchdown. 
  • Cobe Marquez (Waverly, Ohio) had a total of six catches on seven targets with 32 yards receiving. 
  • Ty Wiley (Pickerington, Ohio) was the leading receiver in terms of yards as he caught five passes for 102 yards and one touchdown. 
    • Wiley was on the receiving end of a 47-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. 
    • Wiley has three games of 100 yards in his career. 
  • Brady Blattner (Cumberland, Ohio) led the Panthers with eight tackles.  
  • Daishaun Hill (Rocky River, Ohio) had his second straight game with an interception as he took away his third pick of the season. 
  • D. Hill and DeShannon Butler (Columbus, Ohio) both had seven tackles on defense. 
  • ODU finished with 224 yards of total offense compared to Ashland's 268. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ashland had the only scoring of the first quarter and finished the first half with a 6-0 lead. 
  • The first drive of the second half for Ashland resulted in a touchdown and a 13-0 lead at the midway point. 
  • Two drives later, Gallehue and Wiley connected for a 47-yard touchdown pass and pulled within a 13-6 lead with 3:12 left in the third quarter. The extra point was no good but the game was still only seven points. 
  • The ensuing kickoff went the way of the Eagles with a 90-yard kickoff return and the lead doubled to 20-6 with only three minutes left in the third frame. 
  • Both teams got an interception in the fourth quarter but neither team was able to capitalize and the final score was 20-6. 

UP NEXT

  • The Panthers will welcome the Lake Erie Storm to 1216 Sunbury Road next Saturday (Oct. 7) for Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM from Panther Stadium.
