CRESTVIEW HILLS, Kentucky - The Ohio Dominican Panthers football team opened conference play on the road in Week 3, taking on the Thomas More Saints at Republic Bank Field on Saturday (Sept. 16) night.
Thomas More got a late fourth quarter touchdown, defeating the Panthers 18-17 as Ohio Dominican fell to 1-2 (0-1 G-MAC).
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Drew Gallehue (Edon, Ohio) threw for 192 yards on 21 completions with two passing touchdowns.
- Jonzell Norrils (Toledo, Ohio) finished with 43 yards on seven carries with Jordan Pantaleo (Dresden, Ohio) taking the ball twice for 32 yards on the ground.
- Norrils caught two passes for 14 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
- Travis Whittaker (Gahanna, Ohio) was the leading receiver with five catches for 77 yards. He reeled in a 52-yard touchdown pass on ODU's first drive.
- He had 94 all-purpose yards on the day.
- Cobe Marquez (Waverly, Ohio) caught four passes for 21 yards with Ty Wiley (Pickerington, Ohio) totaling 41 yards on three catches with 27 yards on kickoffs (68 all-purpose yards).
- Ivan Ermlich (Pickerington, Ohio) kicked two extra points and made his first field goal of his career, a 42-yarder in the fourth quarter.
- Jayden Hill (Gahanna, Ohio) led all defenders with nine tackles. He forced a fumble and added one tackle for loss.
- Eddie Miller-Garrett (Newark, New Jersey) finished with eight tackles, including a forced fumble and two sacks.
- With two sacks/TFL, he is now 3rd time with 17 career sacks and 35 tackles for loss.
- Caleb Diersing (Cincinnati, Ohio), Kalos Farrier (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Qwyn Williams (Gahanna, Ohio) all combined for 4.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.
- Overall, the Panthers outgained the Saints 277-223.
- The Panthers finished with 33:34 time of possession, including over ten minutes in each of the first and third quarters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- ODU deferred the opening kickoff tio Thomas More and got to work with a quick three-and-out, forcing the Saints to punt.
- Gallehue connected with Whittaker for a 52-yard touchdown pass, giving the Panthers a 7-0 lead with 10:30 left in the opening quarter.
- After the next Saints drive was ended by an errant punt deep in ODU territory, Gallehue found Norrils on a 14-yard screen for an 14-0 lead in the opening eight minutes.
- Thomas More got a pick-six in the middle of the second quarter as the Saints trimmed the lead to 14-6.
- The Saints were threatening in the final minute of the first half when Miller-Garrett got a strip sack of the TMU quarterback and Dylan Fisher (Toledo, Ohio) came away with the fumble recovery.
- Ohio Dominican took a 14-6 lead into the locker room.
- The Panthers held the ball for 12:31 of the third quarter, but could not add onto the lead until the fourth quarter.
- Ermlich capped a 12 play, 43-yard drive with his 42-yard field goal. ODU's lead grew to 17-6 with 14:55 left.
- Thomas More put back-to-back scoring drives together for an 18-17 lead with 1:47 left in the game.
- Ohio Dominican's attempt at a game-winning drive fell short as the final score ended 18-17.
