Men's Soccer Continues Home Slate Hosting Pioneers and Oilers This Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The home stretch continues for the Ohio Dominican men's soccer team as the play host to two more Great Midwest Athletic Conference opponents this week. The Panthers host the Pioneers of Malone on Wednesday and the Oilers of Findlay on Saturday.

Ohio Dominican opened conference play with Trevecca Nazarene last Saturday morning. The two battled for 90 minutes resulting in a 2-2 draw at the end of the game. The Panthers post a 0-2-1 record on the year and a 0-0-1 mark in G-MAC play.

About Ohio Dominican

Freshman Evan French (Canal Winchester, Ohio) is off to a strong start in his collegiate career. The freshman netted an assist in the opening weekend and added his first career goal against Trevecca on Saturday. Joining him on Saturday with a score was Amadou Mamadou (Columbus, Ohio).

Sophomore Jack Jenkins (Canal Winchester, Ohio) and junior Veron Fongeh (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) picked up their first assists on the season in the conference opener. Senior goalkeeper Cory Pulles (Pickerington, Ohio) has recorded 10 saves in the three games, tied for third in the conference in total saves.

About Malone

The Pioneers enter Wednesday evening with a 1-2 record. Malone opened the season with a win over Roberts Wesleyan but were defeated by Daemen and California (Pa.) last week. MU opens G-MAC play against ODU.

Leading the way for Malone is junior Gavin Csiszar. Csiszar has three goals on the season, scoring one in each game. The midfielder is tied for third in the conference in goals and is first in shots (17) and shots on goal (8). Freshman goalkeeper, Griffin Owen, has started in all three contests between the posts. He has tallied four saves in 225 minutes of play.

The Panthers hold a 12-3-1 mark over the Pioneers, dating back to the 2012 season when the teams first met in the Division II Era. ODU has won seven of the last eight contests with a 2-2 draw breaking up the streak during 2019 season. In the last meeting, Ohio Dominican defeated Malone, 1-0, at Panther Stadium.

About Findlay

The Oilers are 2-0-1 in the 2023 season before opening conference play on Wednesday at Cedarville University. UF defeated D'Youville and Wheeling, and collected a draw against Bloomsburg.

Ranked second in the conference with four goals is freshman Carson Oberski. Following him is Christian Palushaj who was named G-MAC Offensive Athlete of the Week after collecting a hat trick at Wheeling. David Hug added two goals and two assists. Nick McCracken has two goals in his finally season in the orange and black. McCracken is tied for third in the conference in shots (13) and tied for the lead in shots on goal (8).

Dating back to the inaugural Division II season, the Panthers are 10-8-2 against the Oilers. Findlay has the momentum as they've won three of the last four meetings, broken up by a 0-0 draw during the 2021 spring season. In the last meeting, UF defeated ODU, 6-0, at Findlay.

Game Time

Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM on Wednesday evening and 3:00 PM on Saturday afternoon, all at Panther Stadium.
