INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - As we sit 24 days from the opening of the 2023 football season, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference has released the Preseason Coaches Poll on Wednesday (August 9).
Entering the 20th season of Ohio Dominican football, the Panthers were voted to finish fourth by the head coaches of the circuit. Ohio Dominican received 60 points behind Ashland, Tiffin and Findlay.Â
The reigning G-MAC Champions, Ashland was selected as the preseason favorite with 78 points and six first-place votes. Both teams that ODU finished in a 6-2 tie with in second place, Tiffin and Findlay were ranked second and third, respectively. Tiffin gathered 71 points and three first-place votes while Findlay had 64 points and a single first-place vote.Â
Hillsdale, Northwood, Kentucky Wesleyan, Lake Erie, Walsh and G-MAC newcomer Thomas More were all ranked behind the Panthers in the now ten-team league.Â
Ohio Dominican won at least seven games for the ninth straight fall campaign as ODU went 7-3 in the 2022 season. The Panthers went 6-2 in the G-MAC, finishing in a second-place tie with Tiffin and Findlay. Since joining the G-MAC in the 2017 season, Ohio Dominican is 33-10 in conference games and has finished outside the top two spots once (tied for third). ODU finished with its 12th consecutive winning season last Fall.
The season begins on September 2nd as the Panthers travel to Notre Dame College. Conference play begins on September 16th as ODU heads to face Thomas More.Â
