#22 Ashland Holds Off Panthers, 31-14

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Playing host to the first leg of a ranked back-to-back, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (3-3, 2-3 G-MAC) football team took on the #22 ranked Ashland Eagles (6-1, 5-0) on a sunny Saturday (Oct. 18) afternoon. 

The Eagles defeated the Panthers 31-14 despite ODU making a run in the second quarter to close the gap.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ashland drove on their first drive and scored first with a long field goal. The Panthers forced the Eagles to a 50-yard field goal from Manaki Watanabe that hit the crossbar and bounced over, giving Ashland a 3-0 lead with 10:48 left in the first quarter. 
  • After a three-and-out for the Panthers, Ashland made the lead 10-0 with a 25-yard rushing touchdown by Ty'aris Stevenson as the clock shifted to under five minutes in the opening quarter. 
  • Ohio Dominican chewed nearly eight minutes off the clock between the first and second quarters, leading to a 16-play, 75-yard scoring drive. ODU converted two fourth down tries, including a 4-yard passing touchdown from Parker to Cornell. The lead was strunk to 10-7 with 12:07 to go before halftime. 
  • The Eagles answered with their own scoring drive of 8:42 as Cameron Blair connected with D.J. Harvey for a 8-yard touchdown. 
  • The Panthers weren't done yet as they quickly answered with a scoring drive just before halftime. Webster caught a seven-yard touchdown catch from Parker as the game was 17-14 at halftime. 
  • Later in the third quarter, Blair scored on a seven-yard touchdown run to make the lead back to 24-14 with five minutes left. 
  • Willtrell Hartson ended the scoring in the fourth quarter on a three-yard touchdown run with 9:03 to go on the clock.

  • The Panthers head on the road and will take on the undefeated Findlay Oilers next Saturday (Oct. 25).
