Fast Start Powers Pioneers Past Panthers In Alumni Hall

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team welcomed Malone on Thursday evening, beginning their three-game home stretch. With a quick start, the Pioneers powered past the Panthers for an 81-61 win.

Box Score Notes

  • Junior Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) was just shy of a double-double netting 19 points and nine rebounds. The guard added three assists and two steals in 39 minutes of play.
  • Fellow teammate, Madelyn Fearon (Greenville, Ohio) collecting nine points, all coming from deep. The guard went 3-3 from behind the arc, dishing out four assists and grabbing five rebounds.
  • Three players notched eight points. Logan Pride (Twinsburg, Ohio) went 4-6 from the charity stripe and grabbed five rebounds, three on the offensive end. Macy Chapman (Hilliard, Ohio) went 4-8 from the field and registered three steals.
  • Off the bench, Kayla McClendon (Columbus, Ohio) went 2-3 from the three-point line with two assists, two rebounds, and a block.
  • The Black and Gold grabbed 28 rebounds, compared to Malone's 27, with a 9-6 edge on the offensive glass.

How It Happened

  • The Panthers won the jump and scored first off a layup from Stare. After exchanging buckets for five minutes of play, the Pioneers ended the quarter on an 8-2 run, taking the lead 22-12.
  • Malone opened the second period with an 11-point swing, extending their lead 33-14 with 4:53 to go. ODU snagged the final four points before the break, bringing their deficit to 18 at the half, 41-23.
  • Out of the intermission, the Black and Gold began the third quarter with a 13-4 scoring run of their own, bring the score to 45-36. Ohio Dominican brought their deficit to four with a three-pointer from McClendon with 3:41 left to play. The Pioneers extended their lead to ten going into the final period of play.
  • MU grew their lead to 64-48 after scoring six points in the first four minutes. Stare scored the next eight points for the Panthers. Malone ended the game on an 11-5 run, taking the lead 81-61.
