COLUMBUS, Ohio - Playing at home for the first time in three weeks, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (2-6) men's basketball team hosted the Central State Marauders (1-10) at Alumni Hall on Wednesday (Dec. 13).
For the eighth time this season, the Panthers had three players in double figures in a 76-69 win over the Marauders to snap a three-game losing streak.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Sean McKitrick (Dayton, Ohio) tied his season and career bests with a 24-point effort. In nearly 40 minutes, McKitrick was nine-of-15 shooting with four three pointers (out of eight attempts) along with two-of-three at the free throw line. He grabbed four rebounds with three assists and one steal.
- Caleb Brooks (Florence, Kentucky) finished with 19 points, his fourth game of at least ten points this season. He managed eight field goals on 14 tries with three free throws. Brooks was tied for the team lead with six rebounds.
- Luke Ruth (Grove City, Ohio) was eight-of-11 shooting with a pair of three pointers for an 18-point night. Ruth tied Brooks for the rebounding category as he dished out four assists.
- Nate Webb (Lafayette, Indiana) scored seven points while Parker Swartz (Grand Rapids, Michigan) gave the Panthers five points, three rebounds, a block and two assists off the bench.
- Zac Kimball (Sydney, Australia) had five rebounds, one block and a career-high five assists.
- The Panthers shot 70.8% in the first half, making 17-of-24 shots. Overall, Ohio Dominican was over 50% as they shot 57.4% (31-54). ODU was above 50% from the floor for the first time since January 28, 2023 at Findlay.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Central State opened the game with a three pointer in the opening minute before Ohio Dominican went on a 13-0 run for a 13-3 lead at the 14:24 mark. Brooks scored ten of those points during that run. Ultimately after the opening Marauders three pointer, a 31-10 ODU run opened a 18 point lead at 31-13 with 7:16 left in the first half.
- The Marauders made a run late in the first half as they got the game within six points, outscoring ODU 19-7 over nearly six minutes.
- Ohio Dominican led 41-33 at the end of the first half. Brooks led the team with 14 points as McKitrick added 11 in the opening 20 minutes.
- To start the second half, McKitrick scored five of the first seven points as the Panthers started out on a 7-0 spurt. Central State called timeout after a McKitrick three two minutes into the half, trailing 48-33.
- ODU got the lead to 15 twice more in the second half but the Marauders chipped away at the lead. After McKitrick made two free throws with 13:24 to go, Central State answered with an 11-0 run to pull within 58-56 with 8:39 left.
- Central State took back the lead on a layup with 5:05 left, a 65-64 advantage.
- 40 seconds later, Ruth stepped into a left wing three pointer to regain the Panther lead at 67-65. Ruth's triple kickstarted a 9-0 run for the Panthers to pull away and seal a 76-69 win over the Marauders.
