COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the last time in the regular season, the Ohio Dominican volleyball team will play in Alumni Hall on Wednesday night before taking a trip to Northeast Ohio. The Black and Gold welcome Thomas More for their home finale and then wrap up their regular season at Malone and Walsh this weekend.
About Ohio Dominican
The Panthers went 2-1 over the week to move to 12-13 overall and 8-8 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, sitting in third in the South Division standings. ODU fell at Tiffin on Tuesday, 3-1, but ended the weekend with back-to-back home sweeps over Trevecca Nazarene and Ky. Wesleyan.
Senior
Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) accounted for 61 digs in the three matches, bringing her career total to 1,587 digs. Shoup averaged 6.10 digs and added 14 assists. The libero is sixth in the conference with a season average of 4.53 digs per set and second with 467 digs.
At the net, four players grabbed 10+ kills through the week. Leading them all was
Lauren Lucas (Grove City, Ohio) with 34 total kills, an average of 3.40 kills per set. Following her was
Jenna Peters (Vermilion, Ohio) with 28 and
Ashley Aselage (Tipp City, Ohio) with 27. The last player was
Grace Zinchuk (Schaumburg, Ill.) with 13.
Both setters for the Black and Gold averaged over 5.00 assists per set.
Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) led with 52 assists, reaching 1,000 career assists in the Trevecca Nazarene match. Fellow sophomore
Saige Avery (Yorkville, Ill.) followed with 51 assists.
Senior
Alexis Keipert (Burlington, Ky.) recorded 34 digs, averaging 3.40 digs per set. Lucas notched 26 digs to Kirker's 17 digs on the week.
About Thomas More
In their first year in the G-MAC, the Saints are 3-13 with an overall mark of 5-22, placing them in seventh in the South Division standings. TMU most recently fell to Cedarville, 3-0, but defeated Ky. Wesleyan, 3-1.
Leading the way for Thomas More is Emily Acito with 224 total kills on the season. The sophomore had eight against Cedarville and 13 against Ky. Wesleyan. Setter, Sam McClanahan averages 6.56 assists per set with her season total at 354. She recorded 49 in the two matches.
Junior, Asia Ferrando, holds down the defense with 450 digs this fall. Ferrando averages 4.89 digs per set after collecting 38 this past weekend. Ferrando also leads with 32 service aces. Fellow junior, Ruthie Neu, follows with 241 digs this season, an average of 2.62 digs per set.
In the first meeting, the Panthers defeated the Saints, 3-1, bringing the Division II Era record to 2-0, in favor of the Black and Gold.
About Malone
The Pioneers are 5-23 on the season with a 3-13 record in the conference, placing them in fifth in the North Division standings. This past week, Malone dropped two road matches at Hillsdale, 3-0, and at Northwood, 3-0.
Leading the way for MU is Gabby Rodriguez and Grace Rosko with 175 and 169 kills this season. Rodriguez averages 1.99 digs per set with Rosko averaging 1.69 digs per set. Setter, Mallory Meinen averages 3.78 assists per set with a season total of 333 assists.
On the defensive end, Macy McCauley has tallied 430 digs in junior season thus far. McCauley averages 4.73 digs per set. Following her is Rodriguez with 190 total digs and an average of 2.16 digs per set. In the middle, Jaymes Gilbert has recorded 72 total blocks on the year, an average of 0.81 blocks per set.
The two will meet for the first time on Friday in Canton. Within the Division II Era, Ohio Dominican leads with a 9-7 record with Malone leading the All-Time record, 10-9. In the last meeting last fall, the Pioneers swept the Panthers at home, 3-0. Malone with host Hillsdale on Thursday before welcoming ODU on Friday.
About Walsh
The Cavaliers lead the North Division with a 15-1 conference record and a 24-3 overall mark. WU most recently defeated the Timberwolves, 3-1, and picked up their first loss in the conference at Hillsdale on Saturday, losing 3-0.
Ranking third in the conference is Aaliyah Couch with 824 total assists this fall and an average of 8.96 assists per set. Three of her hitters have netted 200+ kills this fall with Sydney Dixon at the top with 249 total kills. Following her is Sammie DiBease with 238 kills and Keanna Avery with 214.
Libero, Arora Levengood, averages 4.60 digs per set. Levengood has a season total of 414 digs. The junior also leads the Cavs with 32 service aces. At the net, Grace Lindquest has accounted for 94 total blocks, an average of 1.02 blocks per set.
Within the Division II Era, the Black and Gold leads the Maroon and Gold 9-7, and in the All-Time series, 10-8. In the last matchup a season ago, the Panthers defeated the Cavaliers, 3-1. The Cavs host Northwood on Thursday and Ashland on Friday before welcoming Ohio Dominican on Saturday.

On Wednesday, first serve is set for 6:00 PM from Alumni Hall. Friday night's match will begin at 7:00 PM from Osborne Hall. The Panthers will wrap up their regular season on Saturday with a 4:00 PM first serve from the Cecchini Center.
