CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (1-4, 0-1 G-MAC) men's basketball team kicked off the conference slate with a road contest on Thursday (Nov. 30) night. Ohio Dominican took on the Cedarville Yellow Jackets (4-3, 1-0 G-MAC) at the Callan Athletic Center.
The Panthers and the Yellow Jackets battled through the first half before the Yellow Jackets took the victory 76-56.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- JeJuan Weatherspoon (Columbus, Ohio) tallied his second straight double-double and third overall of the 2023-24 season as he totaled 15 points and 12 rebounds. He also led the Panthers with three assists and two steals.
- Sean McKitrick (Dayton, Ohio) added 16 points, a team-high. McKitrick tied Weatherspoon with six field goals and one three pointer. He made three free throws to Weatherspoon's two.
- Luke Ruth (Grove City, Ohio) had an efficient 15 points with five-of-seven shooting and a perfect five-of-five at the free throw line. 11 of his points came in the second half.
- Parker Swartz (Grand Rapids, Michigan) made one three pointer with his five rebounds.
- Zac Kimball (Sydney, Australia) made a team-best two threes for seven points with four rebounds and two assists.
- The Panthers were 20-of-55 from the floor (36.4%), five-of-21 (23.8%) from deep and 11-of-14 at the free throw line (78.6%).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cedarville started with a 4-0 lead and then 6-3 before a Weatherspoon three tied the game at six after the under-16 media timeout.
- The game was later tied at nine as ODU followed with an 11-5 run for a 20-14 lead with 9:22 left in the half.
- Cedarville closed the half with an 19-8 run for a 33-28 lead at halftime.
- The first half saw five ties and six lead changes.
- After Cedarville scored the first basket of the half to lead by seven, Ohio Dominican got within one with a 7-1 run over 2:31. Cedarville's lead dropped to 36-35 with 17:05 left.
- The Panthers could get back to the lead as Cedarville inched away throughout the rest of the second half.
