Ohio Dominican Begins Road Swing With G-MAC Contests

COLUMBUS, Ohio - With the calendar turning to December, the schedule is now switching to the conference slate for the Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team. 

Ohio Dominican kicks off a four-game road trip with two conference games this week. First, the Panthers will face off with the Cedarville Yellow Jackets on Thursday (Nov. 30) with a trip to Hillsdale on Saturday (Dec. 2) against the Chargers. Thursday's game is set for 7:45 PM and Saturday's contest will start at 3:00 PM. 

OPENING TIPOFF
  • Ohio Dominican earned win #1 under Casey Kaufman with an 88-81 win over Wilberforce at home. The Panthers are 1-3 entering the G-MAC schedule.
  • JeJuan Weatherspoon (Columbus, Ohio) dazzled the Alumni Hall crowd with a 35-point, 20-rebound double-double against Wilberforce. The senior totaled 15 points and 12 rebounds before adding 20 points and eight boards in the second half.
    • Weatherspoon became the second Division II player (3rd overall to date) to reach 20 rebounds in a game and holds the highest single-game total for points and rebounds for the G-MAC this season. This was the fourth 20-rebounds contest in the Division II era for the Panthers.
    • He leads the G-MAC and the Panthers with 22.3 PPG and 10.3 RPG while sitting in the top 20 nationally for both categories.
  • Caleb Brooks (Florence, Kentucky) added his first career double-double in only his fourth game. He tallied 29 points and 11 rebounds for both career-highs. He managed to go nine-of-13 overall and knocked down 11 of his 14 free throw attempts. 
    • The freshman is 2nd on the team with 14.5 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game.
  • The combination of double-doubles were the first time since March 2, 2019 at Ohio Valley where two Panthers had double-doubles in the same contest.
  • Sean McKitrick (Dayton, Ohio) holds the third best scoring average for the team at 11.5 points per game.
  • Luke Ruth (Grove City, Ohio), a freshman, has assisted the Panthers at point guard with 9.8 PPG, 5.0 RPG and 4.5 APG as he is 3rd in the G-MAC for assists. 
  • The Panthers out-rebounded Wilberforce 46-21 with 16 offensive rebounds, leading ODU to 27 second chance points.
  • This was the first time since January 5, 2021 where two Panthers had ten or more rebounds in the same game.
  • In the Division II era, ODU and Cedarville have met 13 times. Cedarville leads the D2 series 10-3 with the last five victories. Cedarville won both matchups in the 2022-23 season (102-64, 80-53). ODU is 2-6 on the road against the Jackets. 
  • ODU and Hillsdale have met 25 times with Hillsdale leading 20-5 since ODU went to Division II. The Chargers have taken the last seven games, with a pair of wins last season (80-74, 67-52). Hillsdale is undefeated in the series in Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena, winning 12 straight.
  • As a team, Ohio Dominican is averaging 32.8 points in the first half before scoring 45.8 points in the second half. 
  • Ohio Dominican sits fourth in the G-MAC with 78.5 points per game this season. 
  • The Panthers are second in the G-MAC with a 75.8% free throw percentage for the season. Over the last two contests, the Panthers have taken 58 free throws with 46 makes - a 79.3% clip. 
ABOUT THE YELLOW JACKETS
  • Cedarville begins G-MAC play with a 3-3 overall record through the first four weeks of the season. 
  • The Yellow Jackets have played in three events this season, the SCB Hall of Fame Classic, the Midwest Region Crossover and the Don Callan Classic, splitting in each weekend. They defeated the 2023 Midwest Regional champ - UMSL in their season opener. 
  • Jayvon Maughmer is second in the G-MAC for points scored (21.7 PPG) while shooting the third best field goal % (.593) among G-MAC players. On top of a good FG%, Maughmer is shooting .586 from three (17-29), best in the conference and 12th in D2. 
  • Grant Whisman is averaging 13.8 points per game with 4.5 rebounds and is tied for the team lead with 17 threes. 
  • Chris Rogers is the third Yellow Jacket in double figures with 11.2 points and he is the assist leader for Cedarville with 3.3 per game. 
  • Jacob Drees averages 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.2 blocks per game. 
  • The Yellow Jackets are scoring 78.0 points per game while allowing 75.2 points per game. 
  • Cedarville is 1st in the G-MAC and 7th in D2 with an 81.9% free throw percentage. 
ABOUT THE CHARGERS
  • Hillsdale began the year 4-1 against the state of Michigan as conference play opens. They will host Lake Erie before ODU comes on Saturday. 
  • Hillsdale is receiving votes in both the D2CSC Media Poll and NABC poll this week, and was ranked sixth in the Midwest Region by the D2CSC. 
  • Joe Reuter and Charles Woodhams are tied for the team lead and 7th in the league with 17.6 points per game. Reuter is leading with 11 threes, 17 free throws and five blocks.
    • Woodhams, on the other hand, is shooting .632 from the floor (1st in the league) with 14 assists. Both of them are averaging at least 5.5 rebounds per game. 
  • Ashton Janowski scores 12.2 points per contest as a sophomore with seven three pointers. 
  • CJ Yarian grabs 8.2 rebounds per game and ranks fourth in the G-MAC. 
  • Samuel Vasiu has 2.0 steals per game, the 5th best mark in the conference. 
  • So far this season, Hillsdale is scoring 77.0 points while giving up 69.4 points per game. The Chargers are shooting .483 overall and .321 from three-point land.
