COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team opens their home schedule with a Thanksgiving Eve match up against the Lakers of Mercyhurst University on Wednesday afternoon. They return to alumni Hall on Sunday afternoon, welcoming the Falcons of Notre Dame College (OH).
About Ohio Dominican
The Panthers enter this week with a 1-1 record after the opening weekend. They fell to the host, McKendree University, on Friday, 68-52. The next day, they turned it around, defeating Missouri S&T, 63-53.
Senior,
Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio), leads the team with 14.5 points per game after posting a team high of 18 on Saturday and 11 on Sunday. Stare averages 4.0 rebounds while shooting 50.o percent from the field and 88.9 percent from the charity stripe. The Ohio native also averages a conference high of 37.3 minutes per game.
Joining Stare in averaging double figures is
Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) with 11.0 points per game. The junior is fourth in the conference averaging 50.0 percent from behind the arc. Mullet netted eight points against the Bearcats and 14 against the Miners.
Sophomore,
Macy Chapman (Hilliard, Ohio), averages 8.5 points followed by freshman
Jenna Shackleford (Newark, Ohio) and
Jazmyn Wheeler (Winfield, W. Va.) with 7.0 points each. Chapman had a team high of 17 points in Saturday while Shackleford and Wheeler grabbed double-digits on Friday with 12 and 10 points. Chapman leads the conference averaging 3.5 steals per game.
As a team, the Black and Gold are shooting 45.3 percent from the floor, 34.5 percent from the three-point line, and 73.1 percent from the free throw line. They average 57.5 points per game while their opponents average 60.5 points per game. The Panthers average 31.5 rebounds and 11.0 assist per game.
About Mercyhurst
The Lakers are 2-2 entering Wednesday's match up with a 1-2 road record. They opened the season with a pair of road losses at West Liberty, 74-71, and Wheeling, 64-57. MU grabbed an 84-36 win over G-MAC Institution, Lake Erie, before hitting the road again to Roberts Wesleyan, bringing home a 72-57 win.
Leading the way for Mercyhurst through four games is forward Bailey Kuhns. Kuhns averages 16.5 points per game along with 5.3 rebounds. The sophomore has netted double figure points in every contest thus far, including a season high of 21 points at Roberts Wesleyan.
Following Kuhns is Danielle Grim with an average of 15.0 points per game. The junior leads the team with 8.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.8 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game. Grim notched a season high of 22 points in the season opener at West Liberty.
As a team, the Lakers average 71.0 points per game while holding their opponents to just 57.8 points per game. MU is shooting 42.5 percent from the field, 27.2 percent from behind the arc, and 73.9 percent from the charity stripe. The two teams have never met during the Division II era.
About Notre Dame (OH)
The Falcons are 1-3 through their first four games this season. They won their opening game against Clarion, 93-83, but are on a three game losing streak with losses at Gannon, 108-56, against G-MAC's Ursuline, 84-72, and Wheeling, 70-57.
Four different players average double-digit scoring with Lilee Carson leading the way with 13.0 points per game. Following her is Vincennes transfer, Kennadi Harris, with an average of 11.8, Noel Weathers with 11.5, and Kentucky Wesleyan transfer, Rachel Richardson, with 10.5 points per game. Weathers also leads the team with 9.5 rebounds per game and three blocks on the year.
As a team, NDC averages 35.3 rebounds, 12.0 assists, and 9.3 steals per game. They are shooting 39.0 percent from the floor, 31.7 percent from the three-point line, and 63.3 percent from the free throw line. They average 69.5 points per game while their opponents average 86.3 points per game.
The two have played only twice in the past 15 years, including once within the Division II era. In 2009, Notre Dame took the win at home while in 2012, ODU evened the record at 1-1 with a 60-46 victory. Head coach, Lauren Macer, led the Falcons in that game with 17 points and added seven rebounds.
Notre Dame will travel to West Liberty University on Tuesday evening before making their way to Alumni hall on Sunday afternoon.
