COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team returns home for Homecoming weekend with two matches. The Panthers host the Storm on Lake Erie on Friday evening and the Arrows of Ursuline on Saturday evening.
The Black and Gold went 2-1 over the course of last week to move to 7-7 on the year and 4-4 in the conference, sitting third in the South Division. ODU fell on Tuesday in a hard fought five sets the Ashland. They rallied back to defeat the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville, 3-2, on Friday and ended the weekend with a 3-1 win at Thomas More on Saturday.
About Ohio Dominican
Over the week,
Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) combined for 57 total digs, averaging 4.07 digs per set. Shoup has netted double-figure digs in every game this season and is third in the conference with 259 digs this season. The senior has 1,379 total career digs, ranking tenth in the Ohio Dominican volleyball record book.
Sophomore,
Ashley Aselage (Tipp City, Ohio) led the team with 43 combined kills through the three matches. Aselage averaged 3.07 kills per set and added seven blocks. Following her was
Lauren Lucas (Grove City, Ohio) with 41 kills, an average of 2.93 kills per set. Lucas also recorded 36 digs, averaging 2.57 digs per set. The junior has recorded six double-doubles on the season.
Both setters for the Black and Gold posted great numbers.
Saige Avery (Yorkville, Ill.) notched 77 total assists and 32 digs with
Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) recording 64 total assists and 25 digs. Avery added five service aces behind senior
Alexis Keipert's (Burlington, Ky.) eight service aces. Keipert tallied 47 total digs, averaging 3.36 per set.
At the net, freshman
Ava Horn (Whitehouse, Ohio) has stepped up, recording 13 total blocks for the Panthers. Horn had two solo blocks and 11 block assists over the week.
Grace Zinchuk (Schaumburg, Ill.) recorded six blocks with two solos and four assisted.
About Lake Erie
The Storm are 2-13 on the year and 1-6 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, sitting in seventh in the North Division. LEC most recently fell to Hillsdale and Northwood, 3-0, at home last weekend.
Leading the way for Lake Erie is senior Dora Olah with 172 total kills, an average of 3.37 kills per set. Simone Schurr averages 4.82 assists per set and has 22 total service aces. Fellow junior Brooklyn Broadway averages 3.05 digs per set.
The Panthers are 11-5 against the Storm, dating back to the 2010 season. ODU is currently on a three game winning streak since the 2021 spring season. Lake Erie welcomes Malone on Tuesday evening before traveling to Ohio Dominican on Saturday.
About Ursuline
The Arrows are 1-14 overall and 1-5 in the conference. Ursuline most recently dropped home matches to Northwood and Hillsdale, falling in three in both games. UC is currently one spot ahead of Lake Erie in the North Division standings.
Sophomore Karrington Green has posted 104 kills this season, averaging 2.31 kills per set. Fellow sophomore, Hannah Laurich, has collected 177 total assists. Laurich averages 4.66 assists per set. Freshman Mya Jackson leads with 148 digs. She averages 3.36 digs per set.
ODU holds a 5-1 record over UC since 2017, when the Panthers joined the G-MAC. The Black and Gold are on a four game winning streak with their only loss coming in 2018. The Arrows host Walsh on Wednesday and travel to Ashland on Friday before heading to Alumni Hall on Saturday evening.

The Panthers welcome Lake Erie on Friday to kickoff Homecoming weekend with a 6:00 PM first serve. The Action in Alumni Hall continues on Saturday at 6:00 PM as they host Ursuline to end the weekend.
