HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The game was scoreless through the first 25 minutes before the Panthers broke the scoreless tie.
  • On the sixth drive of the day for the Panthers, Ohio Dominican drove 55 yards on seven plays for a trip to paydirt. Facing third and five, Byrd connected with Cornell in the right corner of the end-zone from ten yards out. With 5:17 left before halftime, the Panthers added a two-point conversion run from Isaac Allegretto (Lima, Ohio). ODU's lead was 8-0 in the second quarter.
  • Northwood attempted a 39-yard field goal as time nearly expired but the kick was no good. Ohio Dominican held an 8-0 lead at halftime.
  • The Timbies got a long kickoff return to open the second half. The short field did not help the scoring effort as another field goal try, this time from 22 yards was no good as well.
  • On the next drive, Ohio Dominican punted the ball away but got the ball right back on a fumble during the return. Kaden Watts (Zanesville, Ohio) forced the fumble and Clay Caudill (Mansfield, Ohio) recovered the ball. The Panthers could not capitalize and still held an 8-0 lead.
  • Late in the third quarter, Ohio Dominican got their first fourth down stop as Powers stuffed the middle of the line on a fourth and one play. ODU's lead was still 8-0 after three quarters.
  • Two drives later, Northwood was stopped on fourth down deep in Ohio Dominican's territory. On the 13th play of a 78-yard drive, the Timberwolves missed on a fourth and two as the Panthers took over on downs.
  • Byrd completed four passes on the next drive, leading to a one-yard touchdown catch by Wiley. The lead grew to 15-0 with 4:03 left.
    • On the drive, Byrd and Wiley had a 39-yard passing play before Spencer Klopfenstein (Troy, Ohio) got into the red zone with a 14-yard catch.
  • After two straight first downs, Northwood seemed poised to get something going but the defense held strong on another turnover on downs with 2:24 remaining.
  • Northwood's final drive ended the game after a potential scoring play was wiped out by the buzzer. The Panthers won the game 15-0.

UP NEXT

  • The Panthers will travel to Findlay to take on the Oilers next Saturday (Oct. 28) afternoon. Kickoff at Donnell Stadium is at 12:00 PM.
