CANTON, Ohio - On a chilly Saturday (Oct. 21) morning at Pioneer Park, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference hosted the 2023 version of the conference championship on the campus of Malone University.
The women finished in 12th place of 13 teams for the 6K on a hilly course in Canton, averaging a time of 26:00 per person. In the men's 8K, Ohio Dominican ended up ninth of 13 teams. The average time was 27:15 on the men's side.
MEN
For the fourth time this season, senior
Ethan Sinning (Tipp City, Ohio) was the top Ohio Dominican runner (62nd place) as he crossed the line at 26:58.3. Sophomore
Merrick Shorter (Dublin, Ohio) and freshman
Aidan Shannon (Columbus, Ohio) were back-to-back with 66th and 67th place finishes. Shorter's time was 27:12.0 with Shannon at 27:17.5 as the two were separated by one second on average miles. Senior
Jacob Krous (Galena, Ohio) came in five spots behind Shannon and was five seconds behind his closest teammate. Junior
Eayuel Gebrtsadik (Columbus, Ohio) was fifth on the Panthers with a final 8K time of 27:24.3, close behind Krous by three spots. Freshman
Rogan Hanson (Craig, Alaska) and sophomore
Edward Devaney (Lexington, Ohio) finished with respective times of 28:35.5 and 30:43.2.
WOMEN
Junior
Kylee Henry (Circleville, Ohio) led the Panthers as the top Black and Gold runner, running the campus course in 25:06.5 in 71st place. Freshman
Kaelin Pfeifer (Washington Court House, Ohio) ended her first conference championship with a 25:32.3 time, averaging 6:50 per mile. Senior
Jeralyn Strawn (Lancaster, Ohio) ran her third best time of the season (25:57.3) as the third highest ODU runner.
Freshman
Gabby Reed (Pickerington, Ohio) was fourth on the team at 26:36.2 with senior
Jaclyn Strawn (Lancaster, Ohio) coming in seven seconds behind her (26:43.0). Freshman
Alyza Camp (Waynesville, Ohio) followed Strawn as the sixth best Panther at a final 27:19.0. Fellow freshman
Anna Blackstone (Lexington, Ohio) clocked in at 27:26.2 with her classmate
Morgan MacDonald (Oregon, Ohio) had a final time of 27:57.0.
The Panthers will compete in the 2023 NCAA Midwest Regional in Evansville, Indiana at the Angel Mounds Cross Country Course.
