COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team returns to conference play this weekend with a trip to Michigan as they take on the Timberwolves of Northwood and the Chargers of Hillsdale.
About Ohio Dominican
After the Midwest Region Crossover, the Panthers are 10-9, going 6-4 in the G-MAC, sitting in second in the South Division. At the Crossover, ODU split with their GLVC opponents, falling to Upper Iowa, 3-2, and defeating Missouri S&T, 3-1. They were bested by GLIAC institute, Wayne State, 3-1.
Over the weekend, senior
Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) led the way with 52 total digs, averaging 4.00 digs per set. Shoup has recorded double figure digs in every contest this season. She is second in the conference with 351 total digs this season.
At the net,
Jenna Peters (Vermilion, Ohio) collected 41 total kills in Indiana. Peters averaged 3.15 kills per set and had double-digit kills in every match. The sophomore has netted double figure kills in seven straight matches. Fellow outside hitter,
Lauren Lucas (Grove City, Ohio) added 33 kills and 26 digs over the two days. On the season, Lucas has notched double-doubles in nine contests, including ones against Upper Iowa and Missouri S&T.
Sophomores,
Ashley Aselage (Tipp City, Ohio) and
Grace Zinchuk (Schaumburg, Ill.) accounted for 33 and 34 kills in the three games. Aselage averaged 2.77 kills per set with Zinchuk averaging 2.62 kills per set. Zinchuk also grabbed nine blocks. Freshman
Ava Horn (Whitehouse, Ohio) led with 13 total blocks this weekend, 11 assisted and 2 solo.
Sophomore
Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) tallied a team high of 77 assists, an average of 5.92 assists per set.
Saige Kirker (Yorkville, Ill.) added 62 assists, averaging 4.77 assists per set. Kirker grabbed 16 digs and five service aces with Avery registering 31 digs and eight kills.
About Northwood
The Timberwolves are 12-9 overall and 7-3 in the conference, sitting at fourth in the North Division. At the Crossover, Northwood went 0-3 with 3-0 losses to Grand Valley State, Lewis, and Indianapolis.
Leading the way is Sydney Hasenfratz with 284 total kills on the season, and average of 3.59 kills per set, sitting second in the conference. With 258 digs is Megan Acs. Acs averages 4.16 digs per set. Setter Renee Brines averages 10.27 assists per set and has a season total of 719 assists.
NU holds a 6-2 mark over ODU, dating back to 2010. The Timbies have won the last two matches, 3-0 in 2022 and 3-2 in 2016.
About Hillsdale
The Chargers are 16-4 overall with an 8-1 mark in the G-MAC, currently in second in the North Division. Over the weekend, Hillsdale went 2-1 at the Crossover with a 3-1 win against Maryville and a 3-0 win over Michigan Tech. They lost to Quincy, 3-0.
Leading the way for the Chargers is Marilyn Popplewell with 237 total kills, an average of 3.39 kills per set. Popplewell has the fourth highest average in the G-MAC. Setter Lauren Passaglia is fourth in the conference, averaging 8.97 assists per set. Alli Wiese leads the conference in digs per set averaging 4.82 digs.
HC is 16-1 against ODU since the 2010 season. The Chargers have won the last ten games, with the Panthers' only win coming in 2014. Last season, the Black and Gold lost 3-1 in Alumni Hall. Hillsdale hosts Ashland on Friday before welcoming Ohio Dominican on Saturday.
Game Times
First serve is set for 7:00 PM on Friday evening in Riepma Arena. ODU travels to Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena for a 1:00 PM match on Saturday afternoon.
