Volleyball Drops Two on Final Day of UIndy Invitational

INDIANAPOLIS – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team wrapped up the UIndy Invitational on Saturday evening after falling to Bentley (3-1) and University of Missouri- St. Louis (3-0).

Box Score Notes

  • Senior Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) led the Black and Gold in game one with 10 kills.
  • The panthers recorded 10 service aces against Bentley. Alexis Keipert (Burlington, Ky.) and Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) combined for six. Kirker also added 26 assists.
  • Ohio Dominican registered 96 digs on the day. Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) accounted for 40.
  • Olivia Kirksey (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) added another double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs against UMSL.

How It Happened (Bentley)

  • The Panthers opened set one by winning nine of the first 12 points.
  • The Falcons answered with an eight-point run of their own, claiming the lead 16-13.
  • Lauren Lucas (Grove City, Ohio) had back-to-back kills to tie it up 16-all.
  • Bentley responded by grabbing nine of the last 12 points, winning the set 25-19.
  • The Black and Gold took the lead early in set two with an ace from Shoup, 6-3.
  • ODU extended their lead 15-10 with a four-point swing.
  • The Falcons took the lead 24-21 but Ohio Dominican rallied late and went on a five-point run to take set two 26-24.
  • Bentley took the lead in set three but a block from Grace Zinchuk (Schaumburg, Ill.) and Maxwell tied it up three-all.
  • ODU strung together a late three-point run but dropped set three 25-17.
  • The Black and Gold started set four on top 3-2 but quickly fell behind 8-4.
  • Ashley Aselage (Tipp City, Ohio) and Zinchuk added kills late, but the Panthers fell in set four 25-17.

How It Happened (UMSL)

  • ODU came out strong taking the lead 3-1 in set one.
  • The Tritons went on a 12-2 run, leading 22-10.
  • The Panthers added kills from Kirksey and Jenna Peters (Vermilion, Ohio) but lost 25-12.
  • Set two opened with four ties. UMSL capitalized on a few errors from Ohio Dominican and gained the lead 14-10.
  • Maxwell collected a kill late, but ODU dropped set two 25-15.
  • The Panthers led the Tritons 9-7 before UMSL went on a six-point run to regain the lead 13-9.
  • Ohio Dominican went on an 8-4 run, tying it up 17-all.
  • The Black and Gold rallied late but lost set three 25-20.

Up Next

The Panthers return home for the first time this season where they'll open up conference play by hosting Malone on Friday, Sept. 9, and Walsh on Saturday, Sept. 10.
