Box Score 2 INDIANAPOLIS – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team came up short on day one of the UIndy Invitational falling to Indianapolis (4-1) and Grand Valley State (4-1).
Box Score Notes
- Senior Madison Smith (Elyria, Ohio) recorded a career-best of 12 assists against UIndy.
- With 17 assists and 17 digs, Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) registered her first career double-double against GVSU.
- The Panthers collected 114 digs on the day. Leading the way was libero Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) with 32.
- Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) and Olivia Kirksey (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) tallied 10 kills apiece in game one. Kirksey led the Black and Gold with 18 total and Maxwell was right behind with 15. Lauren Lucas (Grove City, Ohio) added 13 kills on the day.
How It Happened (UIndy)
- The Greyhounds charged ahead early with a 9-2 lead over the Panthers.
- The Black and Gold went on a four-point run late but still trailed UIndy 22-12.
- ODU fell 25-13 in set one.
- A kill from Kirksey in set two brought the score to 8-2 with the Greyhounds in the lead.
- Maxwell collected two kills late but the Black and Gold dropped set two 25-13.
- The Panthers capitalized on attacking errors from UIndy and took the lead 9-7 in set three.
- Ohio Dominican went on a 7-2 run to extend their lead 16-11.
- The Greyhounds responded with a four-point run of their own bringing it to 18-all.
- Back-to-back blocks from Grace Zinchuk (Schaumburg, Ill.) allowed the Panthers to win set three 25-22.
- A service ace from Zinchuk gave ODU the lead early in set four, 2-1.
- UIndy went on an 11-point run to regain the lead 19-4.
- The Black and Gold tried to rally late with a four-point run but lost the fourth set 25-14.
How It Happened (GVSU)
- The Lakers jumped to a 10-2 lead in set one.
- Both Ashley Chmielewski (Roscommon, Mich.) and Bailey Christiansen (Delaware, Ohio) collected kills, but the Panthers lost 25-7.
- The Black and Gold collected the first point in set two but quickly found themselves behind 6-2.
- GVSU went on an eight-point run but ODU answered by winning eight of the next 10 points, bringing the score to 17-12 GVSU.
- The Lakers took set two 25-15.
- Ohio Dominican came out strong in set three taking nine of the first 13 points, 9-4.
- GVSU took the lead 20-18 after attacking errors from the Panthers. ODU answered by winning the last seven points to win set three 25-20.
- The Black and Gold led set four 3-2 before the Lakers went on a seven-point run, taking the lead 9-3.
- Maxwell recorded two kills in a last-ditch effort, but the Panthers came up short, dropping set four 25-13.
Ohio Dominican is set to play two games Saturday, Sept. 3 starting at 12 PM against Bentley and 6 PM against UMSL.
