Box Score 2 FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team finished out the Kentucky State Invitational with a 2-2 record.
Box Score Notes
- Junior Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) collected double-figure digs on both matches. She had 13 against Maryville (Mo.) and 11 against Kentucky State.
- The Black and Gold registered 11 blocks in game one. Freshman Jenna Peters (Vermilion, Ohio) led the team with six.
- Setter Saige Avery (Yorkville, Ill.) tallied double-figure assists in each game. She had 22 in game one and 17 in game two. Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) also added 17 assists in game two.
- Junior Olivia Kirksey (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) collected a career-high of 10 digs against Maryville (Mo.). She also had double-figure kills in both matches for a total of 27 on the day.
- Alexis Keipert (Burlington, Ky.) received a combined 13 digs and four service aces.
How It Happened (Maryville)
- Maryville took the lead early, but ODU quickly tied it up at 6-all with a kill by Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio).
- The Saints went on a nine point run, regaining the lead 22-15.
- With late kills from Kirksey and Grace Zinchuk (Schaumburg, Ill.), the Panthers dropped set one 25-17.
- The Black and Gold claimed six of the first eight points in set two, taking the lead 6-2.
- The Maryville offense quickly went on a five point run, leading 21-17.
- The Panthers had no answer late in the match and fell to the Saints 25-21
- In set three, ODU fell behind early, but tied it up at 4-all with a kill from Lauren Lucas (Grove City, Ohio).
- Winning nine of the last 13 points, the Black and gold took set three 25-22.
- Ohio Dominican trailed 9-3 early.
- Lucas added another kill late in an attempt to start a rally but the Panthers fell short, losing the set 25-13.
How It Happened (Kentucky State)
- The Black and Gold scored the first three points of the match, but quickly trailed KSU 5-4.
- After a couple attacking errors from the Thorobreds, the Panthers regained the lead 7-5.
- Without trailing again, ODU took 15 of the last 19 points to win set one 25-13.
- Ohio Dominican opened set two with a four point run, 4-0.
- With a match winning kill from Freshman Arica Thies (Fairfield, Ohio), the Black and Gold took set two 25-21.
- The Panthers took the lead early in set three. After going on a seven point run, ODU led 17-8.
- KSU answered with a three point run of their own, closing the gap 18-12.
- With a service ace by Shoup, the Black and Gold won set three 25-17.
