Mullet And Stare Post Big Nights In Clash With Ursuline

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – Three members of the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team combined to score 62 of 70 points as the Panthers fell to Ursuline College on the road in G-MAC action Wednesday night. Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio), Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio), and Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) combined for 88.6% of the Panther scoring on the evening.

It was a shootout in the first quarter as both teams combined for 43 points. Ursuline opened the game on a 7-0 scoring run. Schlabach halted the run with a three-pointer. Camryn Pickerill (Seaman, Ohio) followed with a three-pointer of her own to trim the lead to 7-6.

The Arrows responded with two quick buckets to reestablish the lead. A three-point field goal from Mullet at 4:37 in the first quarter from Mullet gave the Black and Gold a 13-11 lead. ODU's lead grew to as much as five points as Kayla McClendon (Columbus, Ohio) drained another parameter jumper to grow the lead to 16-11.

ODU extended its lead in the second quarter as Stare tallied another seven points to finish the first half with 14 points. Mullet joined her teammate, tallying 14 points for herself to give the Panthers a 37-33 lead heading into the break.

Ursuline began clawing back in the third quarter, tallying an 8-0 run to trim the Black and Gold advantage to just one point off a bucket from Madison Cloonan with 41 seconds remaining in the period. The Panthers took a 54-53 lead into the final quarter.

Both clubs traded opportunities throughout the opening moments of the fourth quarter. The Arrows captured the lead with 5:31 remaining in the period and extended it to as much as three points. A three-point jumper from Mullet at 4:37 tied the game at 66-66. Ursuline recaptured the lead and extended it to a five-point advantage with 3:04 remaining.

ODU worked to chip away at the lead and got it down to a two-point advantage off a basket from Bailey Williams (Dublin, Ohio) with 45 seconds remaining in the game. The Panthers went for the win in the final moments as Mullet launched an attempt from beyond the arc that couldn't connect as the Black and Gold fell 72-70 to Ursuline.

HIGHLIGHT NIGHT

It was a great night for Brynn Mullet as the freshman finished with a career-high 23 points. Her previous best came on New Year's Day when she scored 17 points on the road against Kentucky Wesleyan.

Gabby Stare also enjoyed a successful evening, trying her season-high scoring total of 28 points. Prior to her performance Wednesday night, she tallied 28 points on January 3 against Trevecca Nazarene.

The Panthers enjoyed a great night of shooting from beyond the arc, scoring 12 three-point field goals That ties a season-high when the Black and Gold tallied 12 against Lake Superior State on November 13, 2021.
