Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – To close out the 2022 season, the Ohio Dominican volleyball team hosted Ky. Wesleyan for their senior day on Saturday evening. The Black and Gold swept the Purple Panthers, 3-0.
Box Score Notes
- Senior Madison Smith (Elyria, Ohio) collected her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and a team high 20 digs. Fellow senior Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) added 10 kills and six digs.
- Olivia Kirksey (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) notched another double-figure kill game with 17. Kirksey registered 11 digs on top of that.
- In the Panther backline, libero Alexis Keipert (Burlington, Ky.) grabbed 18 digs.
- Setters Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) and Saige Avery (Yorkville, Ill.) combined for 39 assists. Kirker snagged 23 with Avery collecting 16.
How It Happened
- ODU fell behind early in set one 6-3.
- After a block from Smith and Arica Thies (Fairfield, Ohio), the Black and Gold tied it up 8-all.
- An ace from Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) gave the Panthers the lead 12-10.
- A kill from Kirksey extended the lead to 22-18.
- KWC tied the match at 24-all, but kills from Smith and Kirksey gave Ohio Dominican the win, 26-24.
- The Purple Panthers jumped to a 9-3 lead to open the second set.
- The Black and Gold went on a 12-to-four run to come from behind and tie the match at 23-all.
- ODU grabbed the last three-points and won set two 26-24, leading 2-0 in sets.
- With back-to-back services aces, Ky. Wesleyan took the lead 8-3 in set three.
- Ohio Dominican responded with a seven-to-two swing, taki8ng the lead 15-12.
- The Panthers led the rest of the way, closing the third set 25-19 with consecutive kills from Smith and Maxwell. ODU won the match 3-0.
The Black and Gold ended the season 12-18 overall with a 6-10 record in G-MAC play.
