Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – To wrap up Homecoming weekend, the Black and Gold hosted #22 Hillsdale College on Saturday night. After a rallying back-and-forth four sets, the Panthers dropped the match 3-1.
Box Score Nights
- ODU out hit the Chargers .239 to .132 in the first set.
- Freshman Jenna Peters (Vermilion, Ohio) led the way with a career-high of 15 kills. Fellow freshman Ashley Aselage (Tipp City, Ohio) followed with her own career-best of 14 kills.
- Olivia Kirksey (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) collects another double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs.
- In the back row, Alexis Keipert (Burlington, Ky.) registered 22 digs.
- Setters Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) and Saige Avery (Yorkville, Ill.) combined for 47 of the team's 50 assists. Kirker grabbed 26 while Avery tallied 21.
- There were 12 ties and four lead changes in the third set.
- At the net, Aselage and Grace Zinchuk (Schaumberg, Ill.) each notched three blocks.
How It Happened
- ODU quickly fell behind 3-0 in the first set. They answered with a nine-to-one run to grab the lead 12-8.
- Lauren Lucas (Grove City, Ohio) grabbed consecutive kills to push the Panthers' lead to 15-8.
- Hillsdale cut the Black and Gold lead to six after a service error, making it 22-16.
- Lucas brought an end to set one with a kill, giving Ohio Dominican the win 25-17.
- The Chargers grabbed the lead early in the first set 6-2.
- After a couple attacking errors, ODU cut the deficit to a point, 6-5.
- HC went on a five-point run, extending their lead 14-8.
- Kirksey, Aselage, and Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) each collected kills to push the score to 21-14 with the Panthers still trailing.
- Ohio Dominican drops the second set 25-19.
- The third set opened up with nine ties, bringing the score to 10-all.
- Hillsdale went on a 12-4 run to take the lead 22-16.
- The Panthers responded with a late three-point run of their own, coming within three, 24-21.
- The Chargers take the third set 25-21.
- The fourth set opened with a 5-1 run for HC.
- After a few errors from the Chargers and a service ace from Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio), Ohio Dominican regained the lead 11-10.
- Hillsdale retaliated with a four-point run to regain the lead 15-12.
- ODU tied it up 18-all with multiple kills from Peters and Aselage.
- The Panthers kept the pressure by tallying kills from Maxwell and Peters later but the Chargers pulled away with a win, 25-22. Ohio Dominican dropped the match 3-1.
