Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team claimed its second consecutive victory Saturday afternoon, defeating Ursuline College 71-67. Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) poured in 15 points and collected 10 rebounds to claim her first double-double of the season.
Bailey Williams (Dublin, Ohio) finished with a game-high 17 points and added six boards to the Panther cause. Guard Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) also finished with 16 points, with 14 points coming in the fourth quarter where she was perfect from the field and went an unblemished 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.
ODU began the game with a 5-0 lead as baskets from Schlabach and Williams established an early advantage. Ursuline stormed back to recapture the lead as Madison Cloonan sunk a three-point shot to claim a 9-7 advantage. The Arrows lead grew to five points as Riley Stopp converted a fast-break bucket with 3:53 remaining in the opening period.
Freshman Kayla McClendon (Columbus, Ohio) and Williams combined for back-to-back scores to tie the score at 15-15 with 97 seconds remaining in the opening period. McClendon finished the contest with a career-high nine points and was perfect from beyond the arc.
The Black and Gold offense cooled down in the second quarter, scoring just eight points. Ursuline tallied 17 points and took a 34-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Sophomore Grace Hete (Akron, Ohio) opened the second half converting a layup and absorbing a foul to close the gap to six points. The sophomore added two free throws to widdle the lead down to four points in the opening moments of the second half. Stare converted a layup in the paint to trim the Arrow lead to 43-42 heading into the fourth quarter.
Momentum swung the way of the Black and Gold when Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) converted a layup and drew a foul with 6:30 remaining in the game. Her made free throw gave the Panthers a 49-48 advantage. From that point the Black and Gold wouldn't look back as Schlabach converted two key three-pointers and was perfect from the free-throw line to help deliver ODU the 71-67 victory.
