Late Game Heroics And Grit Lift Panthers Over Findlay In Overtime Thriller

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican women's basketball senior Bailey Williams (Dublin, Ohio) converted a three-point attempt with four seconds remaining in the contest to send the game into overtime. Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) tallied 26 points overall and spearheaded a 6-0 run in overtime to power the Black and Gold to a 75-69 victory over the University of Findlay on Saturday evening.

The Panthers started slow out of the gate, scoring just seven points in the first quarter. ODU recovered to outscore the Oilers three of the next four periods. Guard Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) was perfect in the second half tallying eight points on 3-of-3 shooting (2-of-2 from beyond the arc). Stare added five points as the Black and Gold trailed the Oilers by just three points heading into the intermission.

ODU got the lead down to just one point as Williams converted a two pointer early in the third period. The Oiler lead got as large as eight points as a field goal from Amber Schweiger gave the visitors a lead heading into the final period of regulation.

A 6-0 run orchestrated by Schlabach and Stare in the early moments of the fourth quarter brought the Panthers within two points of the visitors. Coming out of the final media timeout Stare tallied two quick sores to bring the Panthers to within one point of the Oilers 54-53. A four-point swing led by Sydney Kin restored the Oiler lead to five points.

Schlabach wouldn't go quietly into the night as a timely three-point field goal brought the Panthers within two points. Freshman Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) converted a layup with 1:18 remaining in the contest to tie the game at 60-60.

Findlay's Rachel Cook scored the next three Oiler points before Williams received the inbound pass from Stare, dribbled to the top of the arc and converted the three-point shot to tie the game with four seconds remaining. Findlay attempted to score a walk off winner but was denied by strong Panther defense as overtime was needed.

Both teams traded opportunities throughout the overtime period, but the Panthers gained a hold of the contest with 1:12 remaining. Schlabach converted a layup in the paint to level the game at 67-67. Free throws from Williams would extend the lead to two points for the hosts, but a block from Stare and four converted free throws would lift the Black and Gold to victory over 75-69 victory over their rival.

After the game, Bailey Williams and Gabby Stare shared their thoughts with Assistant Sports Information Director Ralph Schudel.
