Box Score OWENSBORO, KY. – For the first time in the Division II era, Ohio Dominican women's basketball opened the new year by playing a basketball contest on New Year's Day. The Black and Gold traveled to Owensboro, Kentucky, to battle Kentucky Wesleyan College as Great Midwest Athletic Conference play resumed to ring in 2022.
ODU began the game strong as freshman guard Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) tallied five of the Panthers opening 10 points in the first quarter. She was three-of-five from the field and converted a three-point goal in the opening period to keep the visitors within two points at the end of the first stanza. The first-year guard finished the game with a career-high 17 points, which beats her previous best set against West Liberty on December 14.
Kentucky Wesleyan countered with a strong contribution from forward Tahlia Walton. The junior finished with a game-high 22 points and collected 13 points at the end of the first half intermission.
Senior Bailey Williams (Dublin, Ohio) scored nine points during the second quarter to close the gap to four points at the half. She added six more points in the second half to finish with a career-best 18 points on the contest. Unfortunately, the Black and Gold could not overcome a slow second-half start and fell to KWC by the score of 71-52.
