Volleyball Sweeps Ky. Wesleyan For Sixth Straight Win

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team earned its sixth straight win, concluding the opening weekend of Great Midwest Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 triumph over Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday afternoon, inside Alumni Hall.

The Panthers used a long scoring run to secure the first set, 25-19, before claiming each of the last two games by a score of 25-11. ODU's six-game winning streak is the program's longest since eight consecutive wins in October 2009.

BOX SCORE NOTES

  • The Panthers hit .300 or better for the second time this fall, while also holding KWC to a .059 hitting percentage.
  • Juniors Emilee Fecht (Hilliard, Ohio) and Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) combined for 26 of the team's 43 kills, with both hitting over .450 and tying for the team high with three blocks each in the match.
  • Fecht posted five kills in each of the first two sets and finished with a team-high 14.
  • Maxwell led the Black & Gold in the third set with five of her 12 kills.

  • Junior Carleigh Deitsch (St. Henry, Ohio) paced the Panthers with 33 assists and pitched in nine digs.
  • ODU was a perfect 36-for-36 in reception attempts and Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) and Audrey Jenkins (Canal Winchester, Ohio) each registered 12-plus digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Kentucky Wesleyan led early in the opening set, but ODU rallied and the set was tied at 18-all.
  • Fecht posted four of his team-high kill total down the stretch of Game One, which powered a 7-1 scoring spurt to conclude a 25-19 victory.
  • Despite five ties in the second set, ODU never trailed. The Panthers took advantage of three early service errors by KWC to lead 7-6.
  • After capturing the early advantage, the Black & Gold logged a pair of 7-0 scoring runs en route to a 25-11 decision.
  • The Panthers scored the first nine points of the third game with four points coming on Shoup service aces. ODU never trailed and cruised to another 25-11 win.
