Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team opened Great Midwest Athletic Conference play in style Friday evening inside Alumni Hall, topping Trevecca Nazarene, 3-1.
The Panthers, playing for the first time at home this fall, won the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-18. Trevecca responded with a third-set decision of 25-19. Needing just one more game to win the match, ODU took the fourth frame by a final count of 25-16.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Junior Carleigh Deitsch (St. Henry, Ohio) posted a new career high assist total with 48. Deitsch also added 12 digs and three assists.
- Pacing the Panther attack was junior Emilee Fecht (Hilliard, Ohio), who fell one kill shy of her career-best kill total with 22. Fecht, who logged four-plus kills in every set, hit .436 for the match.
- Fecht was also key in the defense with a personal-high nine digs to go along with two blocks.
- Junior Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) pitched in a season-high 13 kills.
- Three Panthers finished with double-digit digs, led by junior Madison Smith (Elyria, Ohio) with 13.
- ODU hit over .300 in two of the four sets, concluding the match with a .241 clip. The Panthers also held TNU to a .177 hitting percentage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Fecht powered the Panthers in the opening set with seven kills in 12 total attacks.
- The Panthers had four of their eight services in the opening set, including a pair from Smith to put ODU in front 11-5.
- The Black & Gold never trailed for the remainder of the set and took the opening game, 25-20.
- The team that scored first determined each of the final three sets. There were no ties or lead changes in Sets 2-4.
- ODU scored five of the first six points in the second and fourth sets to cruise to 25-18 and 25-16, respectfully.
