Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Carter Patchett (Dublin, Ohio) scored his first career hat-trick as Ohio Dominican men's soccer team defeated visiting Malone University 4-1 on Saturday evening. The Black and Gold also honored four seniors with a pre-match ceremony before kickoff.
Aaron Ashby (Zanesville, Ohio), Sadik Mahamud (Columbus, Ohio), Foster Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio), and Cooper Johnson (Urbana, Ohio) were all honored by head coach Willy Merrick prior to kickoff.
Both teams traded chances throughout the opening moments of the game, but the Black and Gold would strike first in the 39th minute. A foul from Malone gave the Panthers the chance to execute a set-piece opportunity, that's where Patchett went to work.
The junior worked his way into the penalty area and headed the ball past the keeper to give his team a 1-0 lead. Malone countered with a goal shortly before halftime with both teams retreating into the dressing room deadlocked at 1-1 at the intermission.
Patchett would strike once more as sophomore Khalif Hassan (Columbus, Ohio) played a diagonal ball to the Panther midfielder. This allowed Patchett to sneak in behind the Pioneer defense and reestablish the Black and Gold lead at 2-1.
The Dublin, Ohio, native would complete his natural hat trick in the 69th minute with a nice finish to claim a penalty kick goal and swell the lead to 3-1.
Hassan wasn't done for the evening, the Panther sophomore claimed his second assist of the evening as he set up River Allbaugh (Pickerington, Ohio) to score the fourth and final ODU goal.
