Box Score OWENSBORO, Kentucky – For the second time in consecutive games the Ohio Dominican men's soccer team earn a share of the points following a double-overtime draw. This time the Black and Gold battled on the road against Kentucky Wesleyan College on Thursday evening.
The Purple Panthers jumped out front early as Julian Gonzalez collected his fifth goal of the campaign in the fourth minute. ODU went to work in the 12th minute, orchestrating a comeback. Midfielder Jacob Gruber (Westerville, Ohio) continued his strong form, leading a Black and Gold strike of three quick shots on the KWC goal.
ODU went on to outshoot the Purple Panthers by a margin of 10-6 during the first half. The trend would continue with the Black and Gold outshooting the hosts by a margin of 11-7 in the second half. Seniors Jaxson Szabo (Worthington, Ohio) and River Allbaugh (Pickerington, Ohio) spearheaded an attack from the visitors that lead to a busy half in the KWC defensive end. However, it was a junior that would break through the stingy Purple Panther defense.
Junior Zach Ziolo (Dublin, Ohio) got the visitors on the board in the 68th minute with an assist from Szabo to level the score at 1-1. Both teams traded blows through the remainder of regulation time, each trying to fend off the upcoming overtime period, but bonus soccer was needed.
Goalkeeper Harry Castella (London, England, United Kingdom) commanded a defense that held strong during the overtime period, limiting the hosts to two shots on goal. The Black and Gold buckled down and held firm to secure a critical 1-1 draw.
