No. 22 Volleyball Drops Four-Set Match to Cedarville

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 22 Ohio Dominican volleyball team received 13 kills from both of its middle blockers but fell in four sets to Cedarville Friday evening, 25-19, 16-25, 27-25, 25-20.

RECORDS

  • Ohio Dominican drops to 6-2 on the season, with all eight matches coming in Great Midwest play. The Panthers are now 3-1 at home this winter.
  • Cedarville, winners of three straight, have now beaten back-to-back nationally ranked opponents to improve to 5-2 overall and in the G-MAC.

INDIVIDUAL NUMBERS

  • Junior Abbi Gillson (Canton, Ohio) and sophomore Emilee Fecht (Hilliard, Ohio) each recorded 13 kills to lead the Panther offense.
  • To go along with 13 kills, Fecht hit a team-best.323 and paced the Panthers with five blocks.
  • Gillson hit .267 for the match and posted four kills in each of the last two sets.
  • Sophomore Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) added nine kills, while classmate Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) pitched in five kills, six digs and four blocks
  • Four players recorded 13 or more digs for ODU, led by freshman Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) with 16.
  • Junior Audrey Jenkins (Canal Winchester, Ohio) and sophomore Madison Smith (Elyria, Ohio) each posted 14 digs. Smith also logged seven kills and three blocks.
  • Sophomore Carleigh Deitsch (St. Henry, Ohio) was the fourth Panther with double-digit digs, 13, as she also registered 17 assists. Junior Zoe Carmichael (Wooster, Ohio) had a team-high 18 helpers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Panthers were outhit in each of the three sets they lost. For the match, ODU hit .174, which was better than CU's .151 clip.
  • A tight first set saw the Panthers fall victim to a late 7-3 scoring run by Cedarville. The Yellow Jackets' scoring spurt fueled a 25-19 decision in Game One.
  • Looking to tie the match in Game Two, ODU's only deficit came after the first point. A Remmetter kill gave the Panthers a 3-2 lead, and ODU never relinquished the advantage.
  • The Black & Gold hit .286 in the second set, but defensively held CU to a -.026 percentage. ODU led by as many as nine points in the set, including the final tally, 25-16.
  • The most entertaining set of the evening came in Game Three, as the two teams combined for 17 ties and seven lead changes.
  • The Panthers had two set-point serves in Game Three, but could not close the door late. Cedarville took the final three points, all on kills, to win 27-25.
  • The Yellow Jackets took their momentum into the fourth set by scoring 10 of the first 15 points. ODU rallied late to pull within three points, but CU won three of the final four rallies to secure the 25-20 set victory.

UP NEXT

  • Due to a scheduling change, which postponed ODU's match at No. 13 Findlay until Sunday, Feb. 28, the Panthers are now off for an entire week.
  • Ohio Dominican's next match will be on the road against the top ranked team in the nation, Hillsdale, at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26.
