Troyer Tallies 37, Warren Wins 100th Conference Game, As Black and Gold Outlast Walsh

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – It was a memorable night for the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team as they claimed their 11th consecutive win inside of Alumni Hall with a 69-64 victory over Walsh University. The win keeps the Panthers in second place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference standings and keeps them within striking distance of conference leader Cedarville University.

Senior Angela Troyer (Sugarcreek, Ohio) enjoyed a memorable evening scoring a career-best 37 points in the contest. That impressive mark ties her with teammate Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio), who herself tallied the same number of points on the road just last week against the University of Findlay on January 28. Like Stare, that mark ties Troyer for fifth-most points scored in a game in G-MAC competition. It also ties her Panther teammate for most points scored in a conference game this season.

It was a back and forth first quarter with both teams trading baskets throughout. The Black and Gold opened up a four-point lead with two minutes remaining in the quarter. Troyer converted a timely layup off an assist from Olivia Fox (Newark, Ohio) to give ODU its largest lead of the opening frame.

The Panthers lead would expand to as much as five points before Walsh responded. Cavaliers forward Sha Carter scored seven of her team-high 21 points during the second quarter, expanding the visitor's lead to nine points at the break.

Sitting with 11 points at the halftime intermission, Troyer went to work in the second half. The senior came out firing, tallying 10 points in the third quarter alone. She scored the Panthers first five points out of the locker room to close the gap to six with eight minutes remaining in the period. The Black and Gold recaptured their advantage and took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter after junior Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) converted a mid-range jumper from outside of the paint.

Troyer finished the contest scoring 16 points in the final quarter and going 6-of-8 from the field. The senior also managed to add three steals and played a role in ODU outscoring Walsh 41-25 in the second half.

Following the win, Troyer spoke with Panthers broadcaster Todd Bell.

The win moves the Panthers to 10-3 on the season and keeps them positioned in second place in the G-MAC standings. It also extends the Black and Gold's home unbeaten streak to 11 games and its overall winning streak to five.

A career milestone also was reached for head coach Lynsey Warren. The head coach of ODU for nine seasons captured her 100th victory in conference play during Monday's critical victory.
