Volleyball Falls to Ashland on Senior Night

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican volleyball team suffered its first home loss of the season, dropping a four-set match to Ashland Saturday night, 25-12, 24-26, 25-17 and 25-19.  

The Panthers fell to 16-12 overall and 9-6 in the Great Midwest. Ashland, who is leading the G-MAC South Division, improves to 15-12 overall and 11-3 in the G-MAC. 

SENIOR DAY CELEBRATION 

  • Ohio Dominican honored its three seniors prior to the start of Saturday's match. 

  • Megan Hasson (Cincinnati, Ohio)Audrey Jenkins (Canal Winchester, Ohio) and Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) all started for the Black & Gold.  

BOX SCORE NOTES 

  • Olivia Kirksey (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) paced the Panthers with 15 kills. Kirksey posted a team-high three service aces, as well as six digs.  

  • Emilee Fecht (Hilliard, Ohio) added 10 kills and joined Kirksey with three blocks each.  

  • Remmetter registered nine kills and nine digs.  

  • Leading ODU with 36 assists was Carleigh Deitsch (St. Henry, Ohio). Deitsch produced five kills and 10 digs.  

  • Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) led three Panthers with 10-plus digs, recording 20 in the match.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Ashland took advantage of six attacking errors by ODU in the first set, while posting 12 kills to just one error of its own.  

  • The Eagles, powered by a 13-3 scoring run, earned a 25-12 decision in the opening set. 

  • The Panthers trailed by four points as late as 18-14, but thanks to three consecutive aces from Kirksey, tied Game Two, 23-23.  

  • ODU scored the final three points of the set, all kills from Fecht, to win 26-24 and tie the match at one-all.  

  • A tight third set eventually saw the Eagles take control after an 8-2 spurt put Ashland in front 12-6. AU would go on to win the set, 25-17.  

  • ODU scored three of the first four points in the fourth set, but Ashland answered with 10 of the next 13 points to take an 11-6 advantage. The Eagles never trailed after the scoring run en route to a 25-19 win.  

UP NEXT 

  • Ohio Dominican concludes regular season play at Cedarville on Thursday, Nov. 11. 

  • The Panthers and Yellow Jackets are scheduled for a 7 p.m. first serve.
