Volleyball Sweeps Findlay, Advances to Program's First G-MAC Semifinal Round

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team hit a season-high .312 en route to its first postseason victory of its Division II era on Tuesday night, defeating Findlay on the road, 3-0.

Ohio Dominican hit over .300 in each of the final two sets, earning its first postseason tournament victory since 2009. The Panthers advance to their first Great Midwest Semifinal, and will face the No. 2 overall seed, Ashland, this weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Panthers scored five of the match's first seven points, but a Findlay rally had the set tied at 6-6.
  • ODU though, scored the next three points and never trailed for the remainder of the first set.
  • Despite a 4-0 scoring spurt from the Oilers to tie the set at 19-all, the Panthers responded with six of the final eight points, capping a 25-21 first set victory on a block from Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) and Jazlyn Lohman (De Pere, Wisc.).
  • Similar to the first set, ODU got off to fast start in Game Two, scoring the first four points.
  • Findlay, again, rallied as the two sides combined for 15 ties and eight lead changes in the second set.  
  • The Panthers answered a 28-27 deficit with three consecutive points, including an ace from Carleigh Deitsch (St. Henry, Ohio) to win the game, 30-28.
  • In the final set, ODU never trailed and the latest tie came at 7-7.
  • Deadlocked at seven, ODU recorded the next five points, a run highlighted by two aces from Emilee Fecht (Hilliard, Ohio), to take a 12-7 advantage.
  • The Panthers went on to claim the set 25-19, and the match, 3-0.

BOX SCORE NOTES

  • ODU enjoyed a .312 to .157 edge in team hitting percentage.
  • The Panthers also held a 10-1 advantage in team blocks.
  • Olivia Kirksey (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) paced the Panthers with 12 kills, hitting .391 in the match.
  • Recording eight kills each were Fecht and Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio).
  • Lohman was in on a team-high six blocks, including three solo.
  • Deitsch logged 33 assists to go with four kills and four digs.
  • A trio of Panthers tied for the team high in aces at two; Deitsch, Fecht and Maxwell.

UP NEXT

  • The Panthers will now travel to the championship site, Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena, on the campus of Hillsdale College.
  • The G-MAC Semifinal round will take place Friday, Nov. 19, with ODU and Ashland set to play at 7:30 p.m. in the second match of the evening.
  • The winner will advance to Saturday's 2:30 p.m. championship match in Potter Arena.
