Volleyball Travels to Findlay for G-MAC Quarterfinal

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team will travel north to take on Findlay in the opening round of the Great Midwest Tournament on Tuesday, November 16.

The Panthers and Oilers will meet in Findlay, Ohio at Neikamp Arena, with a 7 p.m. first serve. Ticket prices for the quarterfinal match are $10 for adults, students (ages 6-17) are $5, and college students with a valid ID and children ages five and under will be free. G-MAC TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINAL MANUAL

TOURNAMENT HISTORY

  • This will be the Panthers' second consecutive trip to the Great Midwest Tournament. 
  • This will be the 15th all-time tournament appearance for the Panthers and third in its Division II era.
  • ODU will be looking for its first postseason tournament victory in over a decade, when they defeated Southwestern (AZ) College in 2009 when they were a member of the NAIA.

THE MATCHUP

  • Findlay, the three seed, comes in with an overall record of 16-8 and 12-4 in G-MAC play.
  • The Panthers earned the sixth overall seed with a record of 16-13 overall and 9-7 in G-MAC play.
  • Ohio Dominican and Findlay will be meeting for the 27th time in their respective histories. The Oilers currently lead the series, 17-9, including each of the past 13 meetings. 
  • The Oilers won the only matchup of the season in Findlay back on October 8. Findlay was able to take the match 3-0 with scores of 25-22 in game one, 25-22 in game two, and 29-27 in game three. 
  • The Panthers were led by junior Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) and sophomore Olivia Kirksey (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) who both registered at least 10 kills. 
  • Findlay was led by Hannah Warrington, who was able to record 15 kills, nine digs, and one service ace.

VETERAN LEADERSHIP

  • Junior Emilee Fecht (Hilliard, OH) is leading the team with 329 kills and ranks in the top 10 in the conference with an average of 3.39 kills per set. In three of her last five games, Fecht has at least 10 kills.
  • Kirksey has 10-plus kills in six consecutive appearances and is second on the team with 307 on the season. 
  • Senior Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, OH), is third on the team with 289 kills and averages 2.68 kills per set. She currently ranks in the G-MAC top 15 in total kills on the season. She had a season-high of 16 kills against a pair of G-MAC foes in Trevecca Nazarene and Lake Erie.
  • Junior Carleigh Deitsch (St. Henry, OH) leads the Panthers with 1,086 total assists and is currently third in the conference with 10.06 assists per set. Deitsch is top 15 in Division II in total assists. She has recorded at least 35 assists in four of her last six matches. She has also registered an assists-dig double-double in five of the past seven outings. 
  • Sophomore Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, OH) is having a career year with career highs in digs, assists, and serving aces. In three of her last four games, she has recorded at least 15 digs. She is averaging 4.81 digs per set which is good enough for fourth in the conference. 

SCOUTING THE OILERS

  • The Oilers are back in the conference tournament for the fifth consecutive time and are looking for their first title since joining the conference in 2017.
  • Findlay is 4-4 all-time in the G-MAC tournament with two championship match appearances in 2017 and 2018, where they lost to Hillsdale both times.
  • Findlay comes into this match as winners in three of its last four with wins against Lake Erie, Ursuline, and Malone. 
  • The team is led by freshman Journey Blevins who is averaging 4.63 kills per set and is top 10 in the conference with a .297 hitting percentage.

UP NEXT

  • The winner of Tuesday night's match will advance to play the South Division champion, Ashland, in the semifinal round at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 19.
  • The best remaining seed after the semifinal will advance to play Hillsdale, Walsh or Trevecca on Saturday, November 20, in the championship match, also hosted by Hillsdale.
