Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – It was a clash for supremacy in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference as Ohio Dominican men's soccer welcomed Lake Erie College to Sunbury Road for a Saturday afternoon matinee. Both clubs entered Saturday's match tied for the top spot in the G-MAC standings, meaning the winner would claim the lone spot at the top of the conference.
Lake Erie fired the opening salvo as defender Teddy Baker git the visitors off to an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of play. The Black and Gold attempted to answer quickly as midfielder Jack Hayes (New Albany, Ohio) challenged the Storm goalkeeper with a threatening attempt shortly before the 10th minute.
Teammate River Allbaugh (Pickerington, Ohio) forced another save from Thomas Wroblewski moments later with the LEC goalkeeper standing firm. ODU broke through in the 25th minute as Khalif Hassan (Columbus, Ohio) saw his shot rattle off the cross bar but teammate Jacob Gruber (Pickerington, Ohio) came crashing into the offensive zone to hammer in the rebound and secure his first career goal.
Both teams traded chances throughout much of the second half with the Black and Gold outshooting the visitors by a margin of 11-7. The Storm secured the game-winning goal in the 84th minute as Noe Ovalle-Mares lifted his team to the 2-1 victory.
