CANTON, Ohio -- One day after its comeback attempt fell short at Walsh, the Ohio Dominican volleyball team was able to rally for a five-set win at Malone Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers dropped the opening set, 25-19, before tying the match with a 25-12 decision in the second game. After falling behind in the match, 2-1, ODU won the fourth and fifth sets, 25-21 and 15-11, respectively, to earn the hard-fought road victory.

Recording a career-high 56 assists in the win was junior Carleigh Deitsch (St. Henry, Ohio). Deitsch also pitched in five kills and eight digs.

Junior Emilee Fecht (Hilliard, Ohio) posted a double-double, finishing with a team-high 18 kills and a career-high 10 digs. Fecht also led ODU with five blocks.

Joining Fecht with double-digit kills were Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio), Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) and Olivia Kirksey (Reynoldsburg, Ohio). All three Panthers added at least two blocks as well.

Remmetter and Kelsey Shoup combined for seven of ODU's nine service aces. Shoup led the Panthers with four aces, as well as 27 digs.

ODU enjoyed a 10-5 edge in total team blocks, and outhit Malone .211 to .161.

Malone scored the first four points of the match, but ODU rallied to tie the set at 11-11 after a Shoup service ace. The Pioneers though, scored the next three points and never trailed in the set to win 25-19.

ODU hit .353 as a team in the second set en route to a 25-12 victory. Fecht led the offense with four kills in Game No. 2.

ODU and Malone were tied 12 times in a back-and-forth third game, one which saw the Panthers lead 23-20 late. The Pioneers though scored the final five points of the set, taking advantage of a pair of attacking errors by the Black & Gold.

Needing to win the fourth set to keep the match alive, ODU received six kills from Maxwell, who hit .417 in the game, to power through to a 25-21 win.

A first-to-15-point fifth set was deadlocked at 6-all. Ohio Dominican then rattled off four consecutive points, a run capped by a Fecht kill. The Panthers went on to claim a 15-11 set decision to complete the comeback and win the match.
