Fecht Collects 21 Kills in Panthers' Five-Set Thriller with Wayne State

HAMMOND, Ind. – On the final day of the Midwest Region Crossover, Ohio Dominican fell in five sets to Wayne State. After taking the first set 25-22, the outcomes were 17-25, 25-18, 17-25, and 9-15 with the Warriors coming out on top.  

BOX SCORE NOTES 

  • Falling two kills shy of her career high that she set earlier this fall, junior Emilee Fecht (Hilliard, Ohio) lead the Panthers with 21 on the day. She also added four digs and two blocks. 

  • Sophomore Olivia Kirksey (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) tallied 13 kills. She also had five blocks, which ties her career-high mark. 

  • Leading ODU in assists was Carleigh Deitsch (St. Henry, Ohio) with 46. Deitsch also contributed 10 digs and three kills. 

  • In the back row, Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) led ODU with 24 digs. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Black and Gold came out strong with 14 kills in the opening. They took the first set 25-22, thanks to a 10-2 scoring run.  

  • In set two, the Warriors outhit the Panthers with a hitting percentage of .371 to .186. The Panthers fell, 25-17. 

  • ODU rallied through five lead changes in the third to win 25-18, putting them up 2-1 in sets for the match. The Panthers scored the final six points of Game Three. 

  • Wayne State answered with a 7-1 scoring run in the fourth set, which powered the Warriors to a 25-17 win. 

  • Never leading in the fifth set, the Panthers eventually fell 15-9.  

UP NEXT 

  • Ohio Dominican returns home next weekend, when they will battle Ursuline at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22.
