Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team used a strong second half to fly past Ursuline at home Saturday afternoon, 71-58.
ODU improved its field goal percentage nearly 20 percent and made six of its nine three-pointers over the final 20 minutes to outscore the Arrows 43-19 in the second half.
With the win, the Black & Gold go to 14-10 overall and 9-5 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. ODU has also improved its winning streak to a season-high five games. Ursuline falls to 6-16 overall and 3-10 in the G-MAC.
The Arrows scored nine of the game's first 11 points and never trailed in the first half. Ursuline held ODU to 26.3 percent shooting in the first quarter and led 18-13. ODU found itself trailing by double figures on three occasions in the second quarter and conceded five of the final six points of the half, as Ursuline had its largest lead of the game at the intermission, 11 points, at 39-28.
The Panthers slowly started to close the gap at the beginning of the third quarter before capturing its first lead of the game, 48-45, on a three-pointer from junior Angela Troyer (Sugarcreek, Ohio). Troyer's triple was part of a 13-2 ODU run to close the frame, as the Panthers led 50-47 with 10 minutes left to play.
Momentum stayed on ODU's side in the final period, as a 9-0 run by the Black & Gold allowed them to open up a 61-52 advantage with 5:04 remaining. The Panthers scored on four consecutive possessions during the run. ODU led by as many as 15 down the stretch and scored on eight of its final 14 offensive possessions to secure the 71-58 victory.
Senior Brittleigh Macaulay (Big Prairie, Ohio) led the Panthers with 18 points on 9-of-13 shooting. The senior also recorded eight rebounds and finished with three-plus assists for the third time in the past five outings.
Sophomore Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) and Troyer were also in double figures for Ohio Dominican. Schalbach drained five treys en route to 17 points, three rebounds and three assists. Troyer tallied 13 points and five rebounds to go with four assists and three steals.
ODU's assist leader was senior Alexa Fisher (Powell, Ohio), who finished with seven helpers, as well as six points, eight rebounds and five steals. Sophomore Alli Kern (Waterford, Ohio) paced the Panthers with 10 rebounds and pitched in seven points and three assists also.
The Panthers' improved shooting second half resulted in a .418 to .371 advantage in field goal percentage. ODU also outrebounded UC 26-19 in the second half as both sides finished with 40 boards. The Black & Gold's other advantages included a 13-2 mark in second chance points and 21 points off 21 Arrow turnovers.
Ohio Dominican will now hit the road for its only game of the week when the team travels to face Findlay at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13.
