Kern Notches Double-Double in Panthers' 66-60 Win at AB

PHILIPPI, W. Va. – Senior Alexa Fisher (Powell, Ohio) poured in 23 points and sophomore Alli Kern (Waterford, Ohio) registered her second double-double of the season to will the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team to a 66-60 road victory at Alderson Broaddus Saturday afternoon in Great Midwest play.

Fisher now has four 20-point games this season and Saturday's was her third in the past five outings. The senior netted 9-of-16 field goals against the Battlers, including her first five attempts. Fisher also pitched in on the glass with three rebounds.

Kern logged 12 points on four-of-seven shooting and a team-best 12 rebounds. The sophomore now has three career double-doubles and recorded three assists and two steals on Saturday as well. Her point and assist totals both matched a season-high mark.

Junior Angela Troyer (Sugarcreek, Ohio) posted 10 points and six rebounds to go along with team highs in assists (4) and steals (3). Senior Hannah Clark (Glenmont, Ohio) added nine points in the starting lineup.

The quartet combined for 82 percent (54 points) of ODU's scoring Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers (6-9, 2-4 G-MAC) never trailed in the road win. Fisher was four-for-four from the field early, which helped ignite a 15-7 advantage for the Black & Gold. Kern added five points in the frame and ODU led 21-17 after 10 minutes of play.

Ohio Dominican led by as many as six points on two occasions in the second quarter, including 28-22 after a three-point play from junior Olivia Fox (Newark, Ohio). Both sides would finish with 12 points in the period, giving the Black & Gold a 33-29 edge at the break.

The Battlers (6-7, 3-3 G-MAC) rallied to tie the game on several instances in the third quarter, but ODU finished the frame on an 11-2 run to capture its largest lead of the game, nine points, at 51-42. Fisher scored the final five points of the quarter, including a three-pointer as time expired.

Still leading by eight points less than two minutes into the fourth, the Panthers saw their advantage evaporate to one point, 54-53, with 6:29 left to play. ODU though, responded with seven quick points and recaptured an eight-point advantage as 4:23 showed on the game clock.

The Panthers would not allow AB to come closer than three points down the stretch and shots at the charity stripe allowed them to pull away with the six-point victory. The win snapped a five-game losing skid for the Black & Gold and improved them to 6-1 all-time versus AB.

Neither team shot over 40 percent from the field Saturday, but ODU did hold a 47-33 advantage on the glass. Sixteen offensive rebounds also resulted in 11 second chance points for the Panthers. Recording her fourth double-digit rebounding performance was senior Brittleigh Macaulay (Big Prairie, Ohio).

After four consecutive games away from home, the Panthers will return to Alumni Hall for their next contest at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8, when Salem International makes the trip to Columbus.
