Barry's Fourth Quarter Run Downs Women's Basketball in Florida

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team fell 82-66 on day two of the Shark Holiday Classic hosted by Nova Southeastern Saturday afternoon.

Barry used a strong fourth quarter to down the Panthers as ODU was outscored 30-19 in the final period which included a 21-4 run that lasted just under six minutes.

Angela Troyer (Sugarcreek, Ohio) led the way for the Panthers scoring 17 points and grabbing five rebounds. Junior Amanda Schroeder (Dayton, Ohio) came off the bench and was the only other Panther in double-figures with 10 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Alli Kern (Waterford, Ohio) led the Panthers on the glass grabbing seven rebounds and scoring five points.

The first quarter saw the Panthers grab a 2-0 lead and before the Bucs grabbed the lead 9-6. Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) nailed a three to tie the game at 9-9 with 4:34 remaining in the period before a 7-0 Barry run gave them a 16-9 lead with the Panthers finishing the quarter on a short 5-2 run to finish the opening 10 minutes trailing 18-14.

Barry reopened an eight-point lead at 29-21 with 2:54 remaining in the half before the Panthers ended the half on a 10-4 run to send the teams to the intermission with ODU trailing 33-31.

The Panthers opened the second half cutting their deficit to one at 37-36 on a pair of Kern free throws with 7:31 remaining. However, the Bucs would not allow the Panthers to ever regain their lead throughout the contest closing the quarter leading 52-47.

The Panthers shot 36% from the floor (22-for-61) and just 18% from behind the arc (4-for-22) while Barry shot 52.5% (32-for-61) and 50% from three (7-of-14).

The Bucs were led by Harriet Swindells and Nerea Baena who scored 25 and 19 points, respectively.

ODU will head into the holidays with a 5-8 overall record and will be returning to G-MAC play Thursday, January 2 at Cedarville with tip set for 5:30 p.m.
