COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team concluded its 2019 season Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 loss to Kentucky Wesleyan at home.

Honoring its lone senior, ODU's Allie Rutter (Fostoria, Ohio) finished with a team-high 14 digs in the match. Rutter finishes her two-year stint with the Panthers with 704 digs, including 452 this season.

Three Panthers tallied seven or more kills, led by sophomore Abbi Gillson (Canton, Ohio) with nine. Gillson hit a team-best .438 in the match and had four kills in each of the first two sets. Freshmen Emilee Fecht (Hilliard, Ohio) and Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) each had seven kills. Fecht also logged the team's only block, while Maxwell added 12 digs defensively.

Sophomore Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) pitched in six kills and seven digs. The tandem of freshman Carleigh Deitsch (St. Henry, Ohio) and sophomore Zoë Carmichael (Wooster, Ohio) combined for 25 assists, with Deitsch leading the team with 15 helpers.

The first set saw the Battle of the Panthers with a tie score 13 times, as well as four lead changes. Behind four-plus kills from Gillson, Fecht and Maxwell, ODU led late, 24-23. Kentucky Wesleyan (15-11, 8-4 G-MAC) though, rallied to take the opening game, 27-25.

KWC never trailed over the final two sets, winning the frames by scores of 25-13 and 25-15. ODU tied the second set at five-all, but a 61 scoring run by KWC gave them control in the set. The Black & Gold then allowed the first three points in the third set and could only close the deficit to two points early on.

Overall, KWC hit .319, while holding ODU to a .136 hitting clip. The Purple Panthers also enjoyed an 11-3 edge in service aces, including nine over the final two frames.

Ohio Dominican finishes its season with a 3-27 overall record. The Panthers also registered a 2-10 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
