Offensive efforts send volleyball to sweep over Ursuline

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team had its best offensive performance of the season en route to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, and 27-25) win over Ursuline Saturday afternoon in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

The Panthers hit over .300 in all three sets to finish the match with a season-best .359 percentage. ODU hit over .350 for the first time since a 3-0 at Walsh on Sept. 19, 2015. Defensively, the Black & Gold held Ursuline to a hitting percentage of .104.

Sophomore Abbi Gillson (Canton, Ohio) hit .462 in the match, logging a team-high 16 kills. Gillson was also in on an ODU-best three blocks. Classmate Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) and freshman Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) both hit over .300 in the contest, while posting double-doubles. Remmetter finished with 14 kills and 14 digs, while Maxwell added 12 kills and 10 digs.

For the fifth consecutive outing, sophomore Carleigh Deitsch (St. Henry, Ohio) recorded over 30 assists. Deitsch had 44 against the Arrows, her second 40-plus performance this fall. The freshman aided the back row with 10 digs as well. Leading the team with 15 digs was senior Allie Rutter (Fostoria, Ohio).

The Panthers hit .464 in the opening set, as they cruised to a 25-13 decision. Remmetter (7) and Gillson (4) combined for 11 of the team's 16 kills in the frame. Ohio Dominican closed the set on a 6-1 run, which included all three of Remmetter's service aces.

Ursuline and ODU were tied at 7-7 in the second set, but a 6-0 scoring run by the Black & Gold, capped by a Remmetter kill, opened up the game. The Panthers led by as many as 12 points in the set, after another 6-0 spurt put them in front 24-12.

Trailing late in the third frame, ODU rallied from a set-point opportunity by the Arrows (0-13, 0-3 G-MAC) to win 27-25. Maxwell secured the overall victory for the Panthers (1-14, 1-3 G-MAC) with the final two kills of the match.

Ohio Dominican will break from G-MAC play and conclude a brief three-match home stand when the team welcomes nationally-ranked, No. 20 Wheeling Jesuit. First serve is set for 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, inside Alumni Hall.
