Defense Locks Down Malone As Women's Basketball Scores 57-33 Win

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buoyed by its best defensive effort in over a decade, Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team cruised to a 57-33 victory over visiting Malone on Thursday in Alumni Hall.

The 33 points are the fewest allowed by the Panthers since a 71-25 win over Carlow on Dec. 6, 2008.

ODU limited Malone to 18.9 percent shooting (10-of-53) in the contest, including just 3-of-22 (13.6 percent) from the three-point line, and forced 22 Pioneers turnovers.

Junior Alexa Fisher (Powell, Ohio) led all players with 14 points, and she also pulled down eight rebounds while coming up with four steals. Senior Alexis Overly (Chillicothe, Ohio) scored 11 points with five rebounds, and junior Hannah Clark (Glenmont, Ohio) added 10 points.

Freshman Alli Kern (Waterford, Ohio) pulled down nine rebounds and classmate Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) added a season-high eight boards as well.

The Panthers started the game on a 10-2 run and took a 12-5 lead into the second quarter. Malone made just 2-of-13 shots in the opening, and the five points allowed was the fewest in a quarter this season.

ODU then scored the first eight points of the second quarter, capped by consecutive threes from Fisher and Clark, bumping the lead to 20-5 four minutes into the period. The Panthers kept Malone scoreless for an 8:49 stretch that spanned the first and second quarters and took a 23-13 lead into the break.

Kern scored on consecutive possessions to start the third quarter and Fisher followed with a jumper to bump the lead to 29-13, and the advantage never dipped below 13 points for the remainder of the contest while growing to as much as 24 in the fourth quarter.

Ohio Dominican remains at home to take on Walsh at 1 p.m. Saturday in Alumni Hall.
